    @Efriim Then the problem is the Samba share and not the Pi. Restart Samba after you the USB is mounted and then re-try to copy the file to the share.

    I did try that and still ran into issues so said hell with it...erased everything off of USB drive and started from scratch at instructions for manually mounting. Since I had copied everything over using a previous copy method and that might have been causing issues.
    Right now I'm copying the correct directory structure over, so hopefully everything will work properly now once I do the rest of the steps lol. If anything I've learned some things about Linux from the experience.

    Final Update: Success! Thank you all for helping!

    For anyone ever going through this, one of two things I think was the issue: NOT following the instructions to the letter manually mounting, or my UUID was wrong. I had the last char wrong, but could have sworn it was something different before(either new copy changed UUID, or was my error). Resolution on a laptop helps reading the characters much more clearly than on the TV screen where its almost a guessing game.
    I used WinSCP to confirm that its working, and booting up was much faster!

    @greengrounds but yeah put the power supply into that hub. Then the power supply is giving power to the controller and the pi.

    @SmackAttack86 Please add more info about your system, as requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

    EDIT: make sure the usbromservice is installed, on a PC is no longer installed automatically, you need to install it first from the optional packages section.

    For the RetroPie menu - check if you have a retropiemenu folder under the retropie-mount folder on the USB. If you don't, then re-install the retropiemenu package from the core packages section in the RetroPie setup script. Make sure you have your USB plugged-in.

    For the 2nd problem - you'll have to be more specific: what does in game configurations can’t be saved ? The emulator configurations are not saved on the ROM folders.

    Just followed the instructions and it worked perfectly (kind of).
    And if I change the resolution, it looks the same. So I have no idea how to fix it.
    Just for you to know: It would be perfect, if I fix this. The delay is not too high and it looks smooth.

    @Link You can create a folder for the ROMs on the /media/usb0 partition, copy the contents of /home/pi/RetroPie/roms to it, then symlink /home/pi/RetroPie/roms to the folder on the HDD. Make sure you create a back of /home/pi/RetroPie/roms first, just in case.

    Or you can bind mount the folder over /home/pie/RetroPie/roms with something like

    mount -o bind /media/usb0/<Folder_name> /home/pi/RetroPie/roms

    Yeah, that is the page where I read about the workarounds :) I was a bit unsure if there were other differences to think about, but it sounds like it is safe to go for a multiplayer adapter. Thanks for the info.

    @Xenos I'm using an USB SSD for my roms. It makes it very easy to just unplug it and plug it into my desktop pc to manage roms or images/videos, especially if moving many or big files around, which tends to be very slow over my WLAN connection to the Pi in my DIY upright arcade cabinet.

    @tr3v0r If you're just a beginner, then I suggest you use RGUI and the auto-configuration produced for RetroArch and don't edit any files.
    Use the 'Core input remapping' (see docs) to change the RetroPad controls.

    Is this really the easiest way to change the name of controllers? Following the steps listed in xboxdv instructions seem like overkill and over my head frankly.

    I have two 8bitdo controllers, SN30 and a DIY mod PS1 controller and they have the same name unfortunately, szmy-power Ltd. Joypad.

    That's not how it should be done - you should (have) use(d) the Core Remapping option in the RGUI - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#core-input-remapping.

    I wasn't going to bring that up in this thread but since we went that direction...
    I was actually planning my cabinet to have player one as one set of joystick/buttons off of Pi USB 1, player two as the second set off Pi USB 2, the dedicated buttons on the third controller on Pi USB 3, and then a hub stuck into Pi USB 4 which would tie (via extension cables) to two external USB ports on the cabinet, to which I could plug in a keyboard, or two SNES joypads or other types of joypads or joysticks. I was going to cross that "hot swappable/which is active/how do I program that" bridge when I came to it.

    It sounds like, from above, it actually matters which of the 4 USB ports on the Pi I plug into? I figured they were all just addressed the same. Is that true? If so, I assume I plug a hub into USB 4 and those become 4, 5, 6, 7...?

    To clarify what I'm actually doing...

    I'm making a portable console like those ones you can buy online, which simply has a power cord and an HDMI cable and can be plugged into a TV anywhere. But my intent is to have the central portion of the panel have all the "hotkey default" dedicated buttons - save, load, exit, reset, etc. - and then have each of the two joy/button controller areas be small pull-out boxes with long cords, so the "base" can sit on the coffee table while the two controllers get passed between the kids sitting on the sectional sofa. I have plans in my head, and I'm using USB extension cables as the "pull out" cables (connecting the zero-delay boards to the Pi in the base).

    But what this means is that I can't (at least easily) use the pin plugs on the zero-delay boards in each "remote controller" for the buttons which I want on the base. Each zero-delay board will be in the pull-out box, and the "hotkey" dedicated buttons will be several feet away in the base on the coffee table. The only way to have those "hotkey" buttons plugged into the boards which operate the joysticks and action buttons would be to do some wire dissecting and soldering, and I don't want to bother with that.

    So my original question above was, can I use a third zero-delay board in the "base" which would only have those load-save-exit-reset-RGUI dedicated buttons, but NO actual controls tied to it? I suppose another way of looking at it is, can you "null" out all the hotkeys on player one and player two, and then null out all the directional/joystick/X/Y/A/B stuff on player 3 and still assign the hotkey commands?

    I'm working up a sketch of what I'm imagining for more clarity and will post when done, if this isn't clear... or too long that you didn't read it... :)

    I've seen that, and I guess I'm not fully grasping how it's going to behave because that only shows "one controller detected". I assume that "one detected" is because one USB is device is plugged in in that example, and it's offering the options which go with that controller (SNES, Xbox 360, PS3, etc.) being plugged in. It doesn't explain how the menu will look when I have two separate USB boards and possibly a third (i-pac2 with ball and spinner), and what will be presented as options for each. I assume with my custom-built cabinet, I will get some sort of "generic controller" detected, so I am wondering what options it will give me. It also isn't clear where/when/if the hotkey action options appear - it lists the defaults at the bottom but not in the format of the stuff above. Are the hotkey action items listed in order to be assigned, or do they default as indicated and you can only change them by going into the config menu?

    Also, one post I saw seemed to indicate that if you reassign a hotkey action to a single button on your cabinet (rather than leaving it as "hotkey + (button or joystick direction)", then all the other hotkey actions must be assigned a single button and can't remain as a two-press action. Is that correct?

    Each console has its own gamepad - see this page for a detailed overview. The main variation is within the Arcade games, where it really depends on the game - but that's not really my area of expertise. You can look up various builds posted on the forum for real cabinets and their setup and others might chime in and give you advice.

    Yeah, I've read various threads opining on button arrangement, but my question is really a derivative of the above questions; I'm less worried about arranging the buttons for my gameplay and more concerned about what other buttons I should have on my cabinet in order to make it easy for my little kids and for visitors to play.

    Hello and thanks for the answer again. Every emulator, even if I enter Retroarch to move between commands I have to use the controller 2 instead of 1. Image the last one, 4.4 and about the retropie version don't know what you mean, I have updated the script but don't know about the version, how do I see it? Sorry and thanks again.
