Note: I have the vers=1.0 flag set because my network share requires SMBv1 - which I guess could be included in the documentation as well I suppose.

SMB1 is deprecated and insecure - it should not be used anymore.

      I totally second that.

@rossco if you edit the wiki please make it VERY clear that SMBv1 is highly discouraged and should only be used as last resort. Users should not believe that is normal to use SMBv1.

      Cheers!

      @mitu

No problem at all. Yep TOC is fine, it's just the links within the pages which are broken.

      Thanks a lot.

Yes, that one. And you're correct about the revision history. I didn't check that. I must have misremembered what was there.

@mitu I used the desktop version.

As this is a dedicated retropie device, I could have just downloaded the image. But at the time I was setting up three different RPis, two of them file servers. So it made sense to create them all from the same image, and avoid configuring them all individually.

Previously, my RPi wasn't a "dedicated" Retropie, so that was a manual install too.

Aah you are right, sorry I just realised that I confused the GitHub concepts of collaborator with contributor in my head. Indeed the access control is very limited.

@woutertron is there any chance that you use Discord chat, or would be willing to?

There is a libretro/RetrArch Discord server where all of the active mame2003-plus developers (as well as a lot of other RA and core devs) can be reached. This is a direct link to the Discord channel, where I can be PM'd or tagged in #programming: https://discord.gg/C4amCeV

The other way that mame2003-plus developers tend to communicate is via github. It so happens that grant already has an issue stubbed out to talk about documentation related to input and input remapping: https://github.com/libretro/mame2003-plus-libretro/issues/329

That would be a great place to start if you're interested! :D

@herb_fargus I've pretty much tackled it as far as I'm willing to at the moment. I'd certainly revisit it later after a Pi 4 were released or if I felt the need to get a Pi 3B+.

Anyway, I've linked it properly on the wiki now. Hopefully someone finds what I've documented useful. Know I would've loved to just have a quick list of 51 games I could run on my overclocked Pi 3B.

Decided to just go with the Google Sheets method. It is smarter.

@herb_fargus thanks herb appreciate the feedback! I will take your advice and post my proposed changes here for feedback first. I have got N64 running well on my pi (at least for most games anyone cares about). So I'd like to share my tweaks that have made it a more enjoyable experience. Thanks again.

Oh, I agree - I based it on what Brunnis himself was doing comparing the press vs LED tests: differences were minuscule. See it here: https://forums.libretro.com/t/an-input-lag-investigation/4407/524

But he did have a 240fps cam. I'm not sure if I can be bothered myself, it's just an idea. Overall it's all just out of curiosity and old benchmarking habits, which I have since the days of 3dfx cards :P I don't need this to prove anything to myself or others, since I can live with this lag as it is at the moment.

One test though I would definitely would like to conduct is to take some people who claim that are "sensitive" to lag and do some blind trials on multiple setups with various slight differences. I think the results could surprise a few, especially those who swear that 1 -2 frames of lag makes games unplayable for them :)

Sorry to necro this topic, but according to the following link, avoid_pwm_pll=1 was removed from the firmware in October 2015 and is now always enabled.

      https://github.com/Hexxeh/rpi-firmware/commit/260bc9c7589b3359485fc02fed8f56d4c5eaad9a

Does this affect overclocking and, if so, how?

The Wiki still contains the following, which may now be incorrect. Does anyone know for sure?

By setting avoid_pwm_pll=1 (which negatively affects 3.5mm audio quality) you can overclock the individual GPU components with the parameters:

v3d_freq - speed of OpenGL 3D graphics processor isp_freq - speed of Image Sensor Pipeline h264_freq - speed of x264 video decoder (not used by emulators, used by Kodi)

there are already compatibility lists for the PSP, dreamcast and n64 systems, but:

they are often pointless since those systems see active development so anything (not) working today will/won't be working tomorrow. without someone to babysit the google documents (like i, and previously @herb_fargus do for the mame lists) they quickly descend into gibberish. whatever cells you don't make read-only WILL turn into garbage on a bimonthly basis. hence: all the psp, dreamcast and n64 sheets are almost entirely garbage now.

so, good luck to anyone who takes it on ;)

@RobotLimeLtd That is not the default for retropie - default retropie has

      # Sets the "system" directory. # Implementations can query for this directory to load BIOSes, system-specific configs, etc. system_directory = "/home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS"

in configs/all/retroarch.cfg - perhaps you overwrote the config?

      @PetroRie

But lets be honest, everyone who uses RetroPie or any other emulator got their roms illegally.

I certainly don't want to come off as a complete contrarian, but this is also a common misconception. I live in America and there is indeed a legal source to obtain just about any ROM you would ever want. I won't go into the specifics of how and where, as this does not carry over into other countries, but there are also a few other legal ways to obtain ROMs throughout the world as well.

About Kodi I think the devs are more worried about people selling boxes loaded with plugins ready to stream movies and tv shows.

This is indeed more troublesome from a legal point of view, but they've also gone on record several times about their disappointment and disillusionment in seeing something they've worked so hard on being almost universally mistaken for something that stands directly against their own personal beliefs.
