Having experimented with quite a few of these converters in conjunction with RetroPie, I can only say that you have a pretty decent chance of them working, but they can be hit or miss depending on the manufacturer. I would recommend anything from http://www.raphnet-tech.com/ as they have a strong track record and seem to really care about quality.

Edit: Sadly, it appears as though XBox is one of the few controller types that Raphnet doesn't make an adapter for.

Xbox is already USB, just a different form factor - so the adapters are simple and any should work.

              hello, thanks for the info.
i order this iiMash® New Best XBOX to PC USB Controller Converter Gamepad Adapter off amazon and the retropie sees the gampad but it seam to need an extra power supply as the lights on the gamepad dont light up.
i plugged in a extrenal powered usb hub and when i do the power lights on the gamepad light up but then the retropie doesnt see the gamepad anymore.
any ideas or help would be great

It can't hurt to try it for $6. One side is signal and other power only but it does seem odd that the USB port isn't supplying sufficient power for the lights. I have to say if you mean the original Xbox controller I didn't think it had any lights it's well over 10 years old now? :/
