      Running RetroPie 4.2, Raspberry Pi 1
      Playing NES games.

      How do I set a default directory to save all Save States to that directory?

      I attempted to edit /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
      and change the line:

      savestate_directory = "/home/pi/RetroPie/trysave/"

      BUT... after restarting the Raspberry Pi, it saves all game states into each game's ROM directory and NOT into the directory "/home/pi/RetroPie/trysave/"

      I then attempted to edit:
      /opt/retropie/configs/nes/retroarch.cfg

      And changed the line:
      savestate_directory = "default"
      to....
      savestate_directory = "/home/pi/RetroPie/trysave/"

      Then reboot
      BUT... no fix... still saves Save State to each game's ROM directory and not to the directory I try to set.

      What am I overlooking or forgetting to edit??

        Unfortunately I can't delete my post, but I found my answer.
        I have to get rid of the / after I typed the directory.

        Instead of savestate_directory = "/home/pi/RetroPie/trysave/"
        I had to erase the last / and it became
        savestate_directory = "/home/pi/RetroPie/trysave"

        Then save it in both the /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg
        and
        /opt/retropie/configs/nes/retroarch.cfg

          You should say "fortunately". You came back here and shared your solution. What, unfortunately wouldn't happen if you had deleted the post. :-)

            It's best to leave your post so if someone else is having this same issue will find this and be able to resolve it like you did :-)

              Plus in the future you can sit your great grandkids on your knee, pull up this site on the holobrowser and prove that you were here making history happen. Just don't let them click that holofolder marked "Boring Banking Stuff". You're not fooling anyone with that.

                  Ha! I'm sure there's an X or three in there somewhere.
