      Specs first:

      Pi Model = 3
      Power = Apple 2.4A
      RetroPie Version = Started with 4.1 have run many updates since.
      Built From = SD image from RetroPie site
      USB devices = Microsoft Corp. Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows
      Controllers = 2 genuine Microsoft Xbox 360 wireless controllers.

      Now on to the problems:

      Every time I boot, I am prompted to configure my controllers. As far as I can tell autoconfigure is on. Once i configure them, then they work fine in retroarch. As soon as I launch an emulator (so far only tried with PSX, and NES) the buttons are mapped wrong. Like some one scrambled my controller input.

      edit for clarity:

      I have 2 problems I need solved.

      1. It should not prompt me to configure my controllers EVERY time I boot.
      2. I'm not getting confused by the NAMES of buttons. The Button mappings are changing in strange ways. Left on D-pad works correctly in Retroarch. But in both the emulators I tried (PSX, and NES), Left D-Pad = Start, A = Select, etc.

        @carpemortis are you setting your controllers up like a snes controller button layout? That is how you are supposed to set it up. When emulationstation wants you to select button for x you choose y and vice versa. When it asks for a you choose b and vice versa.

          The only setup i've done for the controllers is the one that is prompted every time i boot. I think that's the emulation station setup. I was under the impression that it should pass that info along to the emulators.

          I tired configuring the controller in the NES emulator, but it looked like it was set up properly already.

          Plus, the PSX emulator was also not mapping correctly, and that should be the exact same layout as the 360 controller.

            For anyone else having this issue:

            I'm still not sure what caused it. But I "fixed" it by downloading 4.2 and doing a fresh install.
