You're probably going to get a no-no response for not checking the forum rules before asking a question. You'll need to post up more data for the Dev's and helpers to know what the problem is.... On a side note I'm having the same issue.
      Forum Rules

On a side note I'm having the exact same issue when trying to setup new controllers on this latest update. It has been working perfect since 4.2. Updated today, tried a new controller, no hotkey response. My old controller worked, tried re-configuring it, now it doesn't work. No matter the hotkey chosen.

Pi Model or other hardware: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B
Power Supply used: Raspberry Pi Foundation 5V 2.5a
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.2.6
      Built From: Retropie Website
USB Devices connected: iNext or Pokken Controller
Controller used: inext or Pokken controller
      Error messages received:
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):
Guide used: (Mention if you followed a guide)
File: (File with issue - with FULL path)
Emulator: (Name of emulator - if applicable) All
Attachment of config files: (PLEASE USE PASTEBIN.COM FOR LARGE LOGS)
How to replicate the problem: Trying to configure a new controller or reconfigure an old controller the hotkey no longer responds. No matter the hotkey chosen during config.

It would look like that ;)

What do you mean you can't skip it - are you saying holding a button doesn't work ? The configuration should work the same as any other button with holding to skip, except it allows you to configure a button already in use. If set empty it should prompt if you want to use "select" as the hotkey.

I will need to see a copy of the generated configuration from the file in/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/ as well as the /opt/retropie/configs/all/es_temporaryinput.cfg file which is used to generate it - please wrap it in a code block

I think a last minute change I made broke it as I have just reproduced an issue with the hotkeys being removed. Will sort.

There was an issue when setting a hotkey enable button that caused all hotkey bindings to be removed due to a small change. I have put it back and it seems to be ok here. Please update retropie-setup script and reconfigure your joypad.

@8bithero For triggering retroarch hotkeys from a controller - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#default-joypad-hotkeys

Previously it was always mapped to select. But for some people with additional buttons or those that prefer to map it differently, you can now configure it.

If you skip it during ES configuration, it will prompt you about using select or to not use a hotkey button at all.
