Boots to login prompt and CLI (I bricked my installation)
-
Was just trying to setup Retropie on my RBP3. Tried to do a USB rom transfer, never saw any blinking, did a reboot and now it just boots to a login prompt, and then a CLI but it will not accept any input (the keyboard was working to type in the username/password).
While booting the splash screen fails, and some USB service.
This was auto installed from a bootberry script that I got from the WD pi hardrive (so it is installed on a hardrive, I think).
Other than trying to load the roms, alI I did was an update.Can I do some fresh install? How would I go about doing that when the retropie install is basically bricked? I have a rasbian installed on there as well.
Please help!
ThanksJonathon

@wisnoskij
Right now trying to resolve my problems with a fresh install with noobs. It is looking like I also screwed up a bunch of things my changing the bootberry menu names (removing the version numbers, which I think were outdated anyways).I am going with Lakka as it seems to be known as being easier to use.

Hi @wisnoskij
I think you are a little unfair to RetroPie. Have you tried installing the image from the website, rather than using a third party boot (such as Berryboot or Noobs)? I found the image to be straightfoward to setup.
Just a few notes from my experience of Lakka on an RPi3. When I tried Lakka a few months ago, there was no support for WiFi configuration, or the ability to install anything extra (including non-standard controllers). GIven I use GPIO controllers in my arcade cabinet, Lakka's lack of support was the first hurdle, but even using an XBox360 controller, lack of a simple way to connect to the Pi over WiFi made it more difficult than it needs to be to use it. Equally I find the XMB interface is less informative and less intuitive than EmulationStation's menus (I have a PS3, and find the entire menu system unnecessarily cumbersome).
I can appreciate this may not be everyone's experience or opinion of it, and this is only mine. But, if you only use libretro emulators, can be bothered to download exactly the right cores, have a supported controller and don't mind using a wired connection, I suppose it may work for you, and if that is the case, then why not use what works for you.

@simonster for the record though lakka does have wifi integrated now and it can be configured through xmb but retropie is obviously going to have more of a selection
