So I graphically log into X server on boot, I switch to console (CTRL-ALT-F1 - F6) to login as pi and run EmulationStation. This is how I like my setup since I'm not often doing gaming.

EmulationStation takes over the ALT-F7 and other CTRL-ALT-Fbuttons though. I may want to flip back and forth between X and EmulationStation. Is this configurable somewhere?

Especially, you know, if I'm taking a teensy little break from coding for some gaming, hence the "boss key." ;)

This should be a government regulatory mandated feature in all emulators/frontends. :P

not really a solution, but an idea: take a screenshot of your desktop while doing actual work, and use that as an overlay you can toggle along with mute, via hotkey combo :)

edit: just had another thought: a script your could call with a hotkey that saves your game state and kills the emulator, starts up a work related app/project file, etc.
