Background music of emulation station issue + exiting ps1 game

the background music of emulation station continues to play when in game on PS1. Is there anyway to fix this without completely disabling music and if not how do i disable the music?
Something else i can't seem to figure out is how to exit a PS1 game using the controller i configured. For most other consoles you hit start+select, that doesn't seem to work for PS1...
