Roku Composite Cable
-
I recently bought a Roku which comes with the composite cable with the Red, White, Yellow on one end and the headphone looking jack on the other.
Is it possible to use this cable with the Pi to output to a TV ?
Thanks!

I guess it would depend on how the 3.5mm plug is configured. Here's a chart explaining the difference:

This article has the Left and Right audio switched from the chart I posted above. Not sure which one is correct.

Most of these cables that you'll run across for sale are geared towards video camera devices. When used with those, the colored plugs can be connected as expected (white-right/yellow-left I believe), but when used with almost any entertainment device, it's the other way around. That being the case, the cables that come with those devices are wired to accommodate. Mark it up to the wild and wonderful world of professional "standards". I had read this was an issue when I was looking for a cable to use with my Raspberry Pi and just bought a ZUNE cable to make things simpler, but you can always just switch the connectors.

I picked up one of these cables from a Goodwill for $0.50 but I couldn't get it to work on my older 32" 720p HDTV. I guess I should note that I have an RCA switch box that I was running through (so I can switch between my Blu-ray player, Wii, GameCube or PSX on that TV). There's probably something I needed to put in
/boot/config.txt
. I didn't really try very hard because it already works great with my HDMI cable.
