Connecting to crt via component

Hey guys,
I've been trying to connect my raspberry pi 2 to an old crt tv I have, and purchased an hdmi to component converter box, I then set the output resolution of my pi to that of my tv. I noticed that I'm getting a visual on the TV but it's totally scrambled. I'd there a way to fix this or should I return the box and find anot her alternative.
