I found that my RetroPie install running on a Dell Chromebook 13 with a Celeron and 4GB of RAM that's running GalliumOS performs quite a lot better than my Raspberry Pi 3, but that's all solid state and is from 2015. I'm not sure how an older Core 2 Quad would perform, and I think operating system overhead will come into play as well.

it depends on what games, and what mame core. anything that slows down on the rpi3 will likely be perfect on your pc, but compatibility and accuracy should be the same.

The main games are Mame games such as Spider-Man the arcade game, Ninja Baseball Bat Man (runs a little slugish on my RPI3) and the Golden Axe games and since on a PC there will be a few fans installed i wont have to worry about heating issues when installing Mame 2016 (Which i use on my RPI3 and makes certain games a little more stable).

I have a new question i would like to ask because i am a little curious about this and thinking of building another Linux machine with RetroPie in it and that is this embedded solution motherboard which i would like to know if it would be something more than capable for running arcade games because this one i plan on building a machine for my cousin.

MAME will always benefit by as much horsepower as you can give it. While I can't speak to that particular board, a friend of mine recently built a cabinet with something similarly speced and it'll run almost anything you throw at it.

Ok thanks cause with the case (comes with a 200W PSU) and 4gb of memory the complete system will cost me 200$ and i do plan on installing the 32 bit Ubuntu.

I was trying to get Retro Pie to work on a Lenovo ThinkPad 11E (4GB ram, Intel N2940 Quad-Core)running the 64Bit Ubuntu. Results were hit and miss. I would guess since you are using a desktop you should fair a little better though

You should try again because i saw video's on youtube getting it to work with older celeron laptops

he was running retropie with no problems.

I'll have to watch the video and give it another go. Mine seemed to crash now and again. It said something like it had detected an error.

Watching his video's got me into the whole RetroPie RPI3 which helped me to understand that i could build an arcade machine for so little.

Hi guys again just wanted to ask if this might be considered a little overkill for a Linux RetroPie machine.
getting a Q6600 with the motherboard and heat sink for 50$
HD 5850 1GB for 30$
Case with a 500W (cheapish PSU) for 40$
and i already have a back up 1TB HDD
Also note that this is all Canadian funds as well and just wanted to know with a complete setup like that if it would be overkill.
