Cloud Backup/Sync/Loading
-
I know others have suggested this on previous forums.
I am thinking with Dropbox, Google Drive and maybe others to be supported.
With option to have either/or Rom file / Save States / Save Games backed up and loaded
The idea being you could play a game on one Pi, then save it, close it. Walk to another room and have the Pi in that room load the game and continue playing. This could obviously be Pis located in different places. Would also allow you to do similar with phones that run emulators (RetroArch on Android for example) or PC/Macs

This can be done now with
https://github.com/Death259/PiAssistThough most of the features are outdated but the dropbox sync is nice and still works.
Would be great if that functionality got upstreamed.

Yeah I saw PiAssist... doesnt that need to be run though? I'm asking about something that automatically happens whenever you save a game or state (for example)...

You could have winScp running in the background on your computer to sync your samba share roms folder to a backup directory. It checks for a modified file and then transfers it. You would still have to start it once per session though.

These "work" but are all kludges of sorts... I'm hoping that a suggestion of "proper" Cloud integration might be considered by ThePowersThatBe ;)

@Methanoid
Being run is just going to be a condition, even if it was compiled and installed by default, which sure the devs could do when they have time with any kid of cloud service your still going to have to run a manual step or two to provide authentication information.And once you take the few steps to configure the pi-assist dropbox it basically is the same as your save directories so you do not ave to change any retroarch configurations.

I would be happy enough with a simple way to backup the scraps. Then when I do a fresh RetroPie install I could put all the scraps with no need to overload thegamesdb server.
