I am new to the world of retropie. I installed Retropie 4.2 onto my raspberry pi 3. I have been using my wifi (connecting to the ip address through my browser) to add Roms onto the raspberry pi. Everything has gone fine, except for when I try to add any Playstation games into the PSX Roms folder. It has an orange screen saying that I am missing one or more bios needed. I looked up the Bios for PSX files and it was a scph1001.bin file. I drag and drop this file into the bios folder, and it just says that it is not a supported bios type (I have tried every combination of capitalizing the letters of the bios file as well, since I read sometimes that can have an effect). I am very frustrated, since it seems like all I need to do is add the correct Bios, but im not really sure how.

When you initially install Retropie, are you supposed to have the correct Bios already? Or do you always have to add them in later?

Any help or suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

@njh71788 You add the bios after you install retropie. If its complaining that it is not the right bios file, then download a different one and try again. That's about all we can tell you with regards to getting the bios file.

I have downloaded the SCPH1001.bin bios like 5 different times, from 5 different locations, and it is always the same problem.

Is there another way of adding Bios other than connecting to the ip address through your browser and doing the drag and drop?

@njh71788 is that the exact filename? The file needs to be all uppercase or all lowercase, not mixed.

@buzz No, sorry. I have tried all combinations when adding the file. (all uppercase, all lowercase, even mixed)

@njh71788 cannot help further then sorry. It does work with the right bios in the right place.

You can transfer via sftp also. Check the documentation.

@njh71788 You could try checking the MD5 checksum for the files you've downloaded:

                  https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Playstation-1

It's at the bottom of the wiki page.

i'm not really sure what you're currently doing but the valid means of transferring files are here: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Transferring-Roms - note that USB stick transfer may have some issues with bios transfer at the moment (it did a while ago.. not sure if it's fixed)

Try newer bios like SCPH101.BIN, that is from PSOne. That works fine for me.

My soul rests, when I hear the PS1 boot music

@dd-indeed Do you mean SCPH1001.BIN? Because I tried that one too and it was the same thing. The only ones I was able to actually get it to accept were SCPH5500.BIN and SCPH5502.BIN. But even with those two, it says I am missing one or more bios that I need, and when I try to drag roms in, it doesn't accept them.

same as above. how does it not accept them? a screenshot will be useful

Nope, I meant 101, 1001 is the old original bios.

@dankcushions I will try to post a picture later. Until then I will try to describe it better.

When connected to the pi through the browser, I click on Bios, which opens up the list of supported Bios, along with a box at the top in which you can drag and drop Bios files to add them. (There is also an orange warning around it saying that I am missing one or more Bios if I go into Roms and then PSX). When in the Bios folder, if I try to drag and drop the SCPH1000.BIN, it quickly gives me an X on the file, if I hover over that file, it says that the file is not supported.

i guess you are using something like this?

this isn't an official retropie thing so i would stop using it and choose one of the supported methods listed here: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Transferring-Roms, with my caveat from before

@dankcushions I was trying to figure out how to download Samba Shares, and was watching a video on transferring roms and bios, and they said that if your raspberry pi and laptop are on the same wifi connection, you should be able to just go into your My Computer screen, and type in \RETROPIE and it will automatically connect to it and you will see 4 folders (bios, configs, roms, and splashscreens).

Is this accurate? Or do you need Samba Shares in order to make that visible?
