Retropie Shared Library
-
@sphirst do you mean game library?
-
@sphirst I keep all my roms on my NAS drive, so everything is in a central place. Look at Running Roms from a Network Share in the docs as a place to start.
-
Yes I mean sharing the game library. So all my roms are on my NAS. I want to be able to import them and scrape them on one device and have them automatically added to the other device
-
@sphirst I scrape all my roms on my PC using the Universal XML Scraper, then move them over to my NAS drive. I then have RetroPie pointing at the NAS drive. If you have multiple Pis, you can point each of them to where you keep the roms on the NAS drive.

@mattrixk I'm curious about the performance. Do you run large games (psx for instance) and how does that go?
Either way, it sounds like a great set up.
-
@pjft I don't actually use the Pi for gaming very much, it's more of a Kodi box. However, I haven't noticed any issues playing PSX games over the network.
I haven't really tried with PSP or N64 though.
-
@mattrixk thanks. What do you use for gaming these days, may I ask? Or are you just not having much gaming time?
-
@pjft I have a toddler and a wife that works long hours. I wake up after the wife has left for work, get the kid ready, take him to daycare, go to work, work, leave work, pick up kid, make dinner, feed kid, wife gets home, put kid in bath, put kid to bed, spend some time with wife, fall asleep. There's no real time for games.
Occasionally the wife and I will play a few hours of Diablo 3 on the Xbox360, and every couple of weeks I'll have a chance to play some Borderlands, but that's about it for gaming.
I spend most of my spare time curating the system and trying to set it up to be better. Once that's done I'm going to try to actually game more. I started a thread a little while ago about the best games for young kids and I got some great suggestions. I'm going to try getting the kid started soon.
-
@mattrixk I see. Balancing all of that can be a challenge. Hopefully things will be slightly less hectic in the near future and you'll get to have some actual play time rather than just tinkering. :)
-
@pjft One can hope. My wife works in the film industry (prop painter), and her current project ends in about a month, so she'll be able to pick up a bit more of the house burden soon.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
