MAME Scrape
-
What is the best way to get a cleaner game list than this? I honestly don't even remember scraping MAME. Does ES/RetroPie come pre-equipped with a default gamelist.xml for MAME? For some reason, I have multiple entries of most of my games. I know a little bit about MAME, and think these are all "clones" or alternate regions/etc. Is there a way to filter these out, or combine them, or something? I'm using MAME2003 in libretro, and this is a complete 0.78 romset. This is what my rom folder looks like:

@hansolo77 you might want to have a look here. ClrMAMEPro is great just make sure to backup your roms before you start. And get cozy, it can take a while.
-
Yeah, I've had my fair share of ClrMAMEPro excitement. I was hoping it wouldn't have to come to that. :(
-
@hansolo77 yeah its a doozy but, you get a nice clean list and scraping afterward is nice and fast. Worth it in the long run.
-
So I'm following that guide, and so far it's up to 2% complete. However, when look at the folder it's rebuilding too, it still looks like the same folder I had before. Am I doing it right? I made sure to change the setting to
Non-Merged

sselph's scraper gives perfect mame titles.

I just want a list that says what the game is. If there are multiple versions of the ROM, I want to know what they are too. Like (Japanese), (Clone of PuckMan), (Extra Hard), etc. Instead, I'm getting lists with 4-5 entries of the same exact game name, just different ROM files if launched. Using the available scrapers, I can't figure out how to make it do this and still have videos/etc.
-
@hansolo77 sselph's give you the stuff in brackets. in fact, doing nothing should give you the stuff in brackets as emulationstation has an internal database for 0.78 and 0.37b5 (but once you scrape from anywhere it will override this).
i don't know about videos. i don't use videos.

I will give Selph's another go. When I used it a long time ago (before the creation of UXS), I wasn't to thrilled with it's results for MAME. But maybe that's changed. As for ES's built in.. All I would have to do is erase the gamelist.xml to see that list right?

@hansolo77 yes
