I'd love a way to turn off Last Played, PlayCount fields from getting populated without having to use the Parse Gamelist feature. If I have that feature on, I can't save new Favorites and also can't add new Roms and expect them to automatically show up the next time ES is restarted.
-
@hurricanefan What's the exact use case you're going for here, just for me to wrap my head around it?
If I recall correctly, you're:
- Loading a new ROM to see if you like it;
- Then decide whether to add it to Favorites or not;
- Then the problem is that it shows up as Last Played.
Is that the issue?
If you don't have "Save Metadata on Exit" enabled it won't save the playcount/last played, but it also won't save favorites which I see would defeat the purpose.
The only alternative, unfortunately a workaround, is to:
- Disable "Save metadata on exit"
- Then create a new collection ("My favorites" or something)
- Try out the games
- Add the games to it, instead of to the standard "Favorites" collection
- When finished, re-enable the "Save metadata on exit", and add all the games in that collection to your favorites
Otherwise "Last Played" and "Play count" work as intended.
-
@pjft I stopped using the Last Played collection and don't really care about ES saving that data. So as a wish list item, I'd love to see it stop being collected as a feature.
I'm always testing stuff and the last played data is always something I manually remove out of gamelist.xml files. So this would just save me a step. :)
-
@hurricanefan I see. Thanks for the clarification then.
Doesn't disabling "Save Metadata on Exit" help with that, then?
-
@pjft It does, but with the Favorite feature. I'll have to remember to turn it on and off whenever I want to use that feature.

- ES Kiosk/Kid mode built in or really just add more granularity in the xml file on what you can enable/disable from the menus. No need for a separate "mode".. just set on/off flags for each menu item. This will give the most dynamic future proof setup and allow users to customize the menus as they please.
- Screensaver options that allow a video to play instead of just "dim" or "black" screen.
- Proper screen sleep after x minutes of screensaver time.
- On Screen Keyboard within the menus so that you can enter wifi password using only the joystick and buttons

You can do this now. Update your EmulationStation.

The core dev group has decided not to implement Game ScreenSaver
We are currently planning on freezing new feature integration after Kiosk mode is introduced and continue with code clean up and bug fixing for the month of October. Critical bug if any would be addressed with priority. Please follow development, if you want, on github. If you find bugs, first report them on Forum. We shall escalate them if they are critical.
-
@hex ? I take it you mean it's not going to be implemented for 4.3?
-
Kiosk is not being included in the next release. Thats what buzz said

@hex I was asking about the video screensaver bit. I want aware that there had been such a final decision on something. Thanks.
-
@pjft I am confused. Video Screensaver is already done. Game screensaver is where it runs a rom for a fixed time and then closes the emulator to start again with a random game.
-
@hex ah, sorry. I was referring to @dsstrainer 's request a few posts back for a video screensaver similar to the image one.

Hello,
Could it be possible to have all save files are recorded in a separed common directory and not in the roms directory ?? (to avoid messing with it when using a rom management tool or for just keeping the roms directory as clean as possible ...)
Thank in advance for reading me.

@jawah I haven't tested it myself, but I'm pretty sure that's what the "Savefile" option in the RetroArch menu is for. (Settings > Directory > Scroll to nearly-bottom of page > Savefile, it's set to
<Content dir>
by default) -

@mxstar1 I dont think we have anyone working on it. I tried a simpler approach but it is a lot more complex. We have a distinct vision that is not aligned at all with Attract mode. So I dont know if this feature will be incorporated any time soon.

Hey guys. Somebody probably already requested this at some point, so apologies if I'm re-hashing something already discussed... or even something that can already be done that I'm not aware of.
I was wondering if we could have user-profiles. I'm sure there could be many useful applications for this, but the one that came to mind for me was to have multiple favorites lists.
While testing NES games I'm finding quite a few that I know my niece would love, but I doubt they'd be on my brother's favorites list if he used the feature. I thought it would be cool to make a favorites list for both of them before I get his pi back to him.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
