Kodi 17.3 and Xbox 360 controller

Can't get my wireless Xbox 360 controller to work on Kodi 17.3 and was wondering if this updated post is still the best solution?

UPDATE
To anyone who may have a similar issue, Yes the 360 controller does work OOTB but only after you have activated and configured it from the settings menu. Unlike some other controllers/keyboards you have to manually do this before it will work. -
With the xpad driver it works OOTB. Then configure the buttons in Kodi options.

@rascas doesn't work OOTB unfortunately, well for me anyway. Literally no buttons work in Kodi at the minute. Having to use my wired keyboard
