How To Grab USA Only Roms From Full Sets?
-
I have question..
Maybe some one here knows what i can do
Anyways i have a full set of lets say snes roms
But theres doubles in there because of the usa, pal, jap versions i want to spare as much space as i can and instead of having a few thousands roms with doubles itll be like a few hundred..
I know on PC u can use a program like crmamepro or something like that thing is i dont have a pc i do everything through a Tablet which is Android,
I tried to Google for a similar program but for android i cant find any??
Maybe one of you know a way so i can still
Select the usa only roms and copy those over with FTP.. -
I don't know much about smartphones or tablets at all so I couldn't tell you if there is a program that you could do this with only with that. Using a No-Intro datfile would have been my first suggestion to you if you did. There's a slight learning curve with that option, but it's not that difficult.
I'm sure you've got a friend that has a windows PC, right? Even if you don't want to install extra software or take the time to learn datfiles, you could do a search for either
(U)
or(USA)
in your roms folder depending on which romset you're working with and then move all of the resulting roms to a folder and then just FTP them to your device.Hope that helps. I don't really have any other ideas and I saw you posted that quite a while ago with no suggestions so figured I'd at least mention that idea.

@retrofreak89 here is how i weed them out. Do a search for (U). Then move those into your new rom folder. Then search for (jue). Move those into your new rom folder. Then search for (ju). If that finds anything move them from there to your new folder. Then search for (ue) and move them. All the rest of the roms are junk. You can search for (eu) and (uj) too but i have never seen any

Use RomDeleter..fast and easy...but..understand..it does what it says.
I am not responsible for anything missing..make a proper back up firstWorks in windows or Wine under linux it's easy to use and preset to remove all the "crap"
If you need help with it just ask me

Mindful of the forum rules in your response to this.

@herb_fargus You got me Hehe ;)

I asked about this here.
Using clrmamepro and 1g1r (1 game 1 rom) dat files together with the no-intro romsets is a good way to prioritize between regions. Remember to delete the roms you don't own already.
MAME is a different story, though. I haven't found a good way to sort these between regions.
EDIT: Sorry, I was too quick in the response. I have to say; get access to a Windows pc or a Mac (Clrmamepro can be found in a Wine version for Mac). If you plan on working with RetroPie and setting this up in a bit more advanced way, you have to have a pc or mac at your disposal.
-
@hex I just got the complete mame set I believe its like 4400 files maybe more I can't link you anything tho..
why don't you have any games? -
I dont own many games so :(
I play mostly MS dos and Ports games and a few of the free NES GB games thats all.
-
Well honestly I just search for (USA) or (U) on my OS and then move them to a new folder..worse comes to worse.

I personally used Universal Rom Cleaner, it gave a lot more control over other methods I tried in the past . The site is in French but you can change the language to English in the application. The same developer created Universal XML Scraper.
I tried the ClrMamePro 1G1R method but I found I ended up with a lot of missing roms such as Mike Tyson's Punch-out missing but Punch-Out added as well as Contra but no Probotector. In my opinion those games stand out enough on their own to be considered their own titles.

I could understand why Probotector was removed because it was the EU version of the game, but that's strange that both of the Punch Out games weren't included since they were both separate US carts. Strange.

I used to do what @edmaul69 does, just use the search function and copy them to the new folder. I play only USA games because of the availability of the gameshark/gamegenie cheats so I only download usa romsets.
-
@petrorie The other reason for using US romsets would be because of the NTSC framerate vs the PAL framerate. I know that it is an improvement for many console systems, but I'm not sure if there was a difference on arcade games.
