      Hey Everyone!

I'm totally new around here—to the forums, to RetroPie, to Raspberry Pi, to everything—but I wanted to share some artwork I created for my build. I've learned a ton from this forum so I wanted to say thanks!

I made some retro-inspired icons for the RetroPie Configuration Menu and thought I'd share them with everyone:

      0_1506125641970_ball_rpi-icons.png

      Download them here.

      Then put them here: /home/pi/RetroPie/retropiemenu/icons

There's nothing wrong with the existing icons, but I didn't care much for them aesthetically—especially when paired with 8-bit themes.

These icons are created specifically to compliment @ruckage's gorgeous NES theme. I hope it's okay. I've been tempted to try making my own theme, but I could never top NES Mini. Your work is brilliant. This is my thanks! (I can't wait for SNES Mini).

Feedback on these icons is welcome, but this was really just for fun. I'm a designer by trade, but totally new to making pixel art so this was a learning experience for me. I really had a blast making these and hope you enjoy them too.

There's also a image for the Neo-Geo bios. This doesn't go in the above directory, but instead is used like a scraped box-art image for the Neo-Geo bios.

Note: You'll have to replace these menu icons every time you update your pi because they will be overwritten so keep them handy if you like them.

Great work. They will be perfect for use with the snes/nes themes and any other pixel style themes.

@jonathanball very impressive. Also just as an FYI rookervik made a pixel version of the icons for his pixel theme that also work well with ruckages theme

@ruckage @herb_fargus @Hyruleslink Thanks everyone! Glad to hear you dig them.

I should have known there were some rookervik ones out there somewhere. Thanks for sharing @herb_fargus.

Fantastic job! I use ruckage's NES theme and I really wanted to do something about the default settings icons, but I was just way too lazy. These are better than anything that I could have done.

Nice, these look really great! I will put the icons on my Pi when I have time. 😀

I love them, right now I am using the Retrorama theme (because it works better with the fade and slide transitions and has a video splashscreen) but I certainly love the icons you made, if the RetroPie devs bring back the slide minimal transitions (present in a beta of RetroPie 4.3 and wich worked wonderfuly with the NES / FC / SNES / SFC themes) its not doubt I will get them alongside @ruckage 's Famicom mini and enjoy them :)

'Simple slide' is still available though(more or less)? Just now you can control the carousel separately.

You set 'transition style' to 'instant' so the backgrounds change instantly and 'Carousel transitions' to 'on' so the the icons on the carousel scroll by smoothly.

The only difference is in the game list view when using 'quick system select' to change systems they also change instantly but personally I prefer that (I don't mind the sliding too much but I don't like the zoom in effect when selecting a game with slide).

Going to be adding this to my setup. Thank you, these are lovely and have a wonderful palette. They also match nes-mini's icons perfectly.

                              @ruckage Oh man, thanks!

But, the slide animations at the start / stop of the rom and at the transition between the carrousel and the game list was charmy and let the NES mini theme ROM launching sound play while the instant mode does not

If you want the icons to be smaller so it integrates better with the snes mini theme (at least in my opinion, regarding the pixel size):
