Downloading Cheats in Retropie 4.3
-
I checked around on the forum and all the answers there seem to deal with the online updater that was hidden from the retroarch options in the newest update. I was wondering how to add cheats in 4.3 without the online updater. Thanks a lot.

@genericcharacter cheats for which system?
-
For all main systems, specifically NES and SNES, but I would like to get GB and MD too. When I watch the tutorials and read the posts, it downloads cheats for all systems. I was wondering if there was still a way to do this in 4.3 or if the option is gone entirely.

Here is a picture of an older version of retropie. The highlighted item is what is missing in 4.3 and was taken out. It's what is needed to get the cheats downloaded to the system though. I was wondering if there was a workaround that people knew of that I'm missing.

Check in the configuration file if there is a file with
menu_show_online_updater = false
, could be it's removed by default in newer versions. -
@mitu I got into the configuration file but I didn't see that particular setting in my setup.
-
@mitu OK. Found it and fixed it. That was what I had to change to true to get online updater to show up.
For anyone else that needs to get there. Go to retropie menu and choose configuration editor. Once you get into the editor go to Advanced Configuration and then choose manually edit retroarch configurations. Scroll down find the all/retroarch.cfg file. Go into this file and find the menu section. In the menu section, find the one that says online updater and set it to true. Now you can download cheats into retroarch emulators. -
@mitu Thanks again for the help mitu.

@GenericCharacter I was able to do an online update as well after this step (thanks @mitu!), but none of the cheats I'm applying seem to work. Did you do anything else afterward? Thanks!
-
@bigonthepigdan you have to go to load cheat file. Then choose the system and then the game. Turn whatever cheats you want to on, and then go up and select apply changes. Your cheats should be on now.

@genericcharacter how do you save it? I'm new to this and not sure how to get the cursor down to ok

I had the same issue last night. I found the answer on another forum but can't seem to find it now. I had to go into the retroarch gui. Select user, advanced user I think and then turn on the advanced options. Then back out a level and select view and turn on online updater. Then if you go back it should show up. For some reason they thought it would be a good idea to remove it. This is from memory so it may not be exact but should give you an idea of how to find it.

Hey guys, I do not have the cheat option in the mame emulator.. when I press tab I do not see it anywhere.. I have enabled it in the bios section under all (\retropie\configs\all) but still nothing. Funny enough I have my guns working but cannot seem to get this option to appear.. it is mainly for Lethal Enforcers as I want to enable auto reload as shooting off screen does not work.. any help will do please! Rom set is .106

@genericcharacter can't find all/retroarch.cfg file.. there's over 500 items to scroll through.. is it all the way at the bottom?
