Sheriff (シェリフ), also known as Bandido, is an arcade game developed by Nintendo R&D1 in 1979, designed by Genyo Takeda with art by Shigeru Miyamoto. It is one of the earliest Western-style video games developed (following Gun Fight).
      (Source: Wikipedia).
The player controls a county sheriff tasked with defense of a town against bandits (or better: to defend his girl ;-) )

Miyamoto later would create Donkey Kong's game concepts !!

This overlay is one of those that required a lot of time to create both in research, capturing and artwork recreation fully in vectors.
Artwork is really great so it was worth the effort.

No decent quality images exist of artwork, bezel or marquee; even more no straight frontal picture!
I even wrote to a guy that owns both the cocktail and upright cabinet but never got an answer.
Probably he paid a lot for those, as they are extremely rare, an therefore not willing to share hi res pics. From his perspective I can understand.

Anyway I ended up capturing images from a HD video of the cabinet and recreated major artwork elements based on those captures and on the official arcade flyer.
Found a scan of the original instructions card, restored it significantly and here you go !

To emulate the game correctly you need to use lr-mame2010 and reconfigure controls, as the game had very particular controls: a joystick for movement and a sort of "gas switch" for the shooting direction. Lr-mame2003 does not handle colors and has awful sound.

Note: Lr-mame2010 has some issues with input bindings. You can find a working solution here) (or contribute to find a better one).

You can also use Advmame... but overlay would not work.

      ENJOY !!

You can find this and more hand crafted quality overlays in the rpie-ovl repository.
And if you want an easy way to install them, @meleu created a great dedicated script.
Perform these commands on your RetroPie:

      cd
      git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/meleu/rpie-art
      cd rpie-art
      ./rpie-art.sh

After launching rpie-art.sh script you just have to follow the instructions in the dialog boxes. Once you have the rpie-art.shscript, choose the Update option to get all the latest art in the repository.
