      Hi guys,

I've made a change somewhere and cannot see how to fix it...

Basically the F1 menu to configure controls doesn't appear and I had changed it to be select and B on the gamepad but that doesn't work either and I cannot re-find where I make the changes. Please can someone confirm which file and where I change how to access the menu within a game to edit the controls?

      Thank you

It is likely that your setup is required to need the hotkey enable button (usually select on the gamepad) to be pressed
So you can try holding select and Tapping F1.

Or just use the controller by holding Select and tap the x button.

You can confirm what your controller hotkey setup is by reading the controller file in here
        /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads

Thats assuming you are using a Retroarch based emulator/core

You may also want to check that you dont have any odd settings in your emulator config directory which is
        /opt/retropie/configs/{systemname}and especially in /opt/retropie/configs/{systemname}/retroarch.cfg

So I removed the usbgamepad.cfg from /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads to see if that made any difference and it didn't.

I then did the same with the emulators.cfg and retroarch.cfg files in /opt/retropie/configs/snes and it still made no difference at all.

However, I had made a change the other day where select + start exit the game back to emulation station so I can pick another game and with all these 3 .cfg files missing, this setting remains? Is there another file where the settings are?

I have noticed that if I change the emulator (from from pisnes to another one, that the f1 button works? So its something to do with that but I cannot work out where to make the change...

          Kind regards

After more looming not it appears the menu only doesn't appear when I have pisnes as he chosen emulator. So the settings must be in a pisnes configure somewhere??

Removing the emulators.cfg and retroarch.cfg is really going to screw with/break the setup.
              I'd suggest a clean install.

For retroarch you need the controller file here
              /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads
Just regenerate it in Emulation Station by pressing Start and choosing the configure input controller option.

If you want an overview of where files are, check the wiki or take a look at this video

The gamepad.cfg file in that directory doesn't contain a menu option. Will run the setup again and hopefully it will load it over the top and fix it.

try adding the hotkey commands to both /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads and also in /opt/retropie/configs/EMULATOR NAME/retroarch.cfg. I had a problem with mine not working until i put it in both.

                  the code should look like input_enable_hotkey_btn = "button #", and input_menu_toggle_btn = "button#"
