Kodi 17 cannot see WiFi (Raspberry Pi 3)

So a collection of events lead me to buying a Raspberry Pi 3, and having to setup a new SD card for it using the latest 4.3. Previously I had been using a WiFi USB adaptor (which got stood on along with everything else).

Probably the core thing I've got to go off of is that there are lots of "Couldn't resolve host hame for https://whatever" - when trying to install any add ons (just as an example).

I don't really have much more to go off besides that. There's nothing suspicious in the log, and in an attempt to get around it I tried to do the DNS fixes suggested elsewhere. Given my partner actually uses it for work I'd be grateful for any help provided!

@mrkane If RetroPie has internet access, Kodi will also have. It is the underlying OS (Raspbian) who makes the Wifi connection, and once it is established, all programs in the OS will have internet connection.

First up I'd like to apologise for being so green with this stuff, but I'm much more at home cobbling physical things together out of wood and concrete as opposed to operating Linux - but always time to learn new skills!

So over the last day I went for some assistance with a friend of mine who wired the Pi up to his ethernet and installed [removed by admin] which appeared to stream without issue. Getting the unit back home again I still hit the same issues.

In that session I tried to install the YouTube plugin from the Kodi repository, and access a movie list through [removed by admin]. Both appeared to be unsuccessful, I'm sure it's something that I've done wrong here!

Thank you very much for any assistance or breadcrumbs you can provide. Also: If I want to run an ethernet cable under the house to connect the Pi to the router is a special one required (for the connections) or are they all made the same?

It seems that you don't have internet in your Raspberry Pi, for some reason... It can't resolve adressess, so it is that or somethin related to DNS resolution. Also check that in RetroPie, I suggest you take a look at hte wiki. And also you have Kodi with some weird sources, remove that and try again.

@herb_fargus I actually figured I might cop a ban for this question (and the contents of the log which involved illicit software) but my logic was "my partner works as a translator and if we can get her software working then it's all for a greater household good" and so decided to take a jab at it as it'd make her life easier. Don't ask me too much about the what's and how's there as I'm way out of my ability to explain!

Question: Does posting again here incur another infraction? lol

All of that said: We cannot seem to resolve the DNS issue with the assorted guides around the web and might just have to wait for a linux Jedi friend to come over for tea or something. Sorry to bother everyone!

@mrkane If you don't follow the forum's rules, then - yes - this will result in a ban. It's not that difficult to understand.

As far as your problem - your system doesn't seem to be connected to the internet. How did you configure your RPI for network access ? Assuming you're talking about WiFI, then read https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Wifi/ and perform the steps listed there to get your PI connected to the internet.
