@gamez-fan Thanks for all your great updates & patches.
I know I'm insisting on this as I already made this comment on github..
but is there any chance to get sound in "Deep Scan" (sega vicdual) ?
That would be so great!Recently samples were added to another vicdual game (more info here). I asked if it is possible to add a similar "sample player module" to Deep Scan on that thread but no answer. Samples are available; they are the same as Depth Charge.
I take it you mean this game it's the only one i can see called Deep Scan in the MAME78 vicdual driver..........
GAMEX(1979, invds, 0, invinco4, invds, invds, ROT270, "Sega", "Invinco / Deep Scan", GAME_IMPERFECT_SOUND )
It seems to have sound but your saying it needs to use the same samples as depth charge..?? it should be easy enough to hook it
to those samples in the driver if thats what the game requires i honestly haven't played this one. -
Any chance the system16 games might get a fix? Shinobi has a missing audio channel in the 2nd stage, maybe other areas. E-Swat has garbled voice. Moonwalker won't load. I don't think Altered Beast is playable. Enemies don't move or something like that...it's been a while since I tested. Mame2010 plays most of them fine but some are unplayable because they run too slow. Same goes for latest fba.

Only gonna be the unprotected versions and bootlegs of these games which will work in this older Core, i've never bumped into any of the problems you mention above
when using MAME84 on the Xbox so im guessing a few MAME commits by Charles Mcdonald around MAME81-82 should sort all of the above it's just the workload required
my end to backport these changes that might be the sticking point.I'll take a look sometime to see how much graft it would be but for now im taking a break from working on this source i have another xbox project im gonna be busy on
likely for the rest of the year on a seperate note i suppose this would be a good time to round up the Roms for all the new games i've added support for or hooked up
the sound in etc etc give em a whirl and let me know if they work correctly or not.Cheers!!

Moonwalker won't load
I don't have the other, i think they don't work fine like you write, but Moon Walker (bootleg) is already working fine :)
Altered Beast working, but the scrolling is really slow, the enemies don't disappear ... it is not playable lolFor my part @gamez-fan i have try again the Gal's Panic serie, because you write me them works fine on MAME 2003, i use the official set and no more chance, i can't play them :(
The number 1 working fine, the 2, 4, S, S2 not launching and i play a lot to them on xBox without any problem :)
A friend tel me he can make the S2 working on his PI, he gave me his ROM and it not working better ... it is really strange ... -

Edit daft question you do have the bios skins.zip in your Roms folder..??? these games require it.

This post is deleted! -
@darknior Ok, I tried the bootleg version of Moonwalker on mame 2003. While it is playable, it does not work fine. The audio is played at a higher pitch. All system16 games need some sort of fixing.

Add sound support for Cosmic Alien : https://github.com/libretro/mame2003-libretro/pull/184
WOAW @gamez-fan you are real, thanks, they works, we only must add the BIOS file and it is write in the XLS :
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1LP1MELCvcxu7TfiowF_0ZuvRVEMqlfQyTVetnOJvuJc/edit#gid=1744967714
I'm very angry with my friend who work on the arcade set and don't make fine his work :(- Gals Panic 1 : Perfect
- Gals Panic 2 : Not working
- Gals Panic S : Working but little slow some time more ...
- Gals Panic S2 : Working but little slow some time more ...
- Gals Panic 4 : Perfect
Do you know if there is a speed trick for them you can add to MAME 2003 ?
SEGA Games :

Altered Beast working, but the scrolling is really slow, the enemies don't disappear ... it is not playable lol
-
E-Swat (bootleg) works fine but we don't have the voices like in the video :(
The only voice of the boss we have is horrible lol
-
Shinobi n Shinobo (bootleg) are working and it is same, the voice are better tahn E-Swat, but crappy too.
Not like on this video, i make 3 levels to try ... when we jump there is a sound not human lol
-
Moonwalker (bootleg) is the best working of the group, almost perfect sound. But with a bad pitch like write @Darksavior
If it is possible to fix it with a back port like you write it will be excellent :)

Vic DUAL series of machines had two games in one cabinet/mainboard. In case of Invinco/Deep Scan the Invinco game (sort of space invaders clone) works and has sound. Deep Scan ("evolution" of "Depth Charge" game works but no sound.)
The reason is that these games were using a dedicated sound chip that is not yet emulated.
Recently (link in previous post) a developer created sound samples support for another VicDual machine. It is not emulation of the sound chip but makes that game fully working.
I suppose similar approach could be used for Deep Scan. -

sound support for Cosmic Alien
Sweet ! Thanks @gamez-fan !!!
-
Cosmic Alien now also has a cool overlay.

Ok just committed a large Sega core update to the git, this brings us up to MAME83 and should hopefully fix all those graphical and sound niggles
that quite a few games seemed to have plus im sure you'll all be glad to hear no Roms have changed in the process all your MAME78 Roms
will still be good. Here's a quick breakdown of the WIP according to the drivers..............
Changes:
04/28/04 Charles MacDonald- Added MSM5205 sample playback to shdancbl.
03/17/04
- Added Where's Wally? (wwally) It's encrypted and unplayable.
- Moved Ace Attacker to system16.c (it's a not a System 18 game)
- Fixed System 18 sample ROM banking. This doesn't help the current working games, but will support others when/if they are decrypted.
- Fixed RF5C68A clock (7.15 MHz -> 8.00 MHz).
- Fixed Z80 clock (8.192 MHz -> 8.00 MHz).
- Cleaned up shdancbl sound hardware a little.
03/12/04
- Added preliminary VDP emulation to fix shdancer tile banking and VDP memory tests in other games.
- Added I/O chip emulation, fixes blanked screen at end of shdancer memory test, coin meter/lockout implemented.
- Cleaned up shdancer,shdancrj,shdancbl drivers.
- Added Shadow Dancer (Rev.B) driver (shdancrb).
- Added sound emulation to shdancbl.
- Checked and fixed speed-ups for shdancer, shdancrj, shdancbl, shdancrb.
- Added I/O chip and partial VDP emulation for moonwlkb, astormbl.
03/11/04 Charles MacDonald
Various Hang-On fixes:- Fixed sprite RAM size.
- Fixed tile RAM size.
- Fixed 2nd 68000 work RAM size, passes RAM test.
- Fixed visibility of 2nd 68000 ROM to 1st 68000, passes ROM test.
- Fixed access to road RAM and shared RAM by both CPUs.
- Fixed shared RAM and road RAM visibility to hangon, road layer works again.
- Cleaned up input management, now entering test mode does not crash
MAME, there are no specific control hacks for the name entry screen,
and the ROM patches are no longer needed.
03/12/04 Charles MacDonald
- Fixed end of list and sprite hide flag processing in sys16_sprite_shinobi, hwchamp output test works properly.

04/28/04 Charles MacDonald
- Added MSM5205 sample playback to tturfbl.

- Added missing coin control to sys16_coinctrl_w
- Removed 'extra' RAM in some drivers and replaced with sys16_tilebank_w
I also added Sonic Boom but to play this one however you'll need to do two things firstly grab the normal rom for this game then
add to it the following Roms from the decrypted version.......ROM_LOAD16_BYTE( "bootleg_epr-11342.a4", 0x000000, 0x10000, CRC(089158ef) SHA1(25c2685a39a0341dcb59f55dd0b5c7a7b8ee70d4) )
ROM_LOAD16_BYTE( "bootleg_epr-11340.a1", 0x000001, 0x10000, CRC(253cbd27) SHA1(72dd84ce85fe651747477153b0bbaa870d3166f8) ) -
WOAW thanks a lot for this great update :)
-
@gamez-fan Thanks, but unfortunately, it fixes none of the audio issues the system16 games have. Altered beast is still unplayable. Maybe the bootleg works but I haven't tried that. It made Shinobi worse. After finishing level1, the same level repeated over, I died, then level2 loaded. I was using shinobi.zip. I haven't tried shinobi in months so I can't say for sure your work caused the level to repeat.
I'm using version bc76b23, which matches the latest commit.
-
@gamez-fan Have any changes been made that might effect games made by Irem and Tatio? I have about 150 games running on mame2003 and they all work fine on a stock 4.3 image. However after updating mame-2003 a few times, not many of them work anymore and I keep finding more that don't. Mainly by those devs.
I am using the correct romset etc. I just thought maybe some drivers changes may have caused this?
I made a thread about it here:
https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/14529/help-retropie-4-3-some-mame2003-roms-not-working-after-updateThanks :)
-
@gamez-fan can I make a request that your PRs have all the changes needed for a particular game (or set of games) in one PR? right now it looks like every file change has one PR which makes it difficult to test.

That's a real bummer as it was a ton of Work to update the Sega core and get it on a par with the Xbox MAME port in which we see none
of the sound, graphical and game problems you mention above im at a loss here as to why with the exact same code more or less
the games are fine on the xbox but not so much on the Rpi. -

No changes have been made that would affect the games you mention, listen though when i make any changes to my Xbox MAME project
that involves adding new game support then we always have to delete the previous save files the Emulator creates as this can mess up Rom
loading.Try removing your MAME emulator save files and then reboot it again and hopefully this should sort the issues but i'll certainly look over
my commits again to make sure it's nothing i've done which is causing this. -

Ok no problem

@gamez-fan Yeah I have tried removing saves, even configs too. Still no dice sorry.
