I noticed that the documentation on Controller Setup here https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Controller-Configuration/ mentions Shoulder and Trigger buttons. These terms are OK when talking about SNES controllers that (according to the docs) only have „shoulder“ buttons. But for the Playstation gamepads that come with two sets of buttons on the „shoulder“ side its confusing which one is the one on top. I guess Shoulder is on top and Trigger is the lower one. I suggest to update the documentation and add a quick note to clarify that.

What confused me is that the picture for Playstation Controllers here https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Controller-Configuration/ shows the two buttons as Left Trigger, then Left Shoulder. So the Trigger button appears on top of the image although I assume it should be the lower button.

I know its kind of a detail but the otherwise excellent documentation can be improved here.

Please remark that this is not a question. I suggest to "answer" this directly in the documentation page. Small improvements are also good improvements.

      Cheers
      Clemens

@cwacha this is something that has always been a confusion due to the various hardware types. It had originally been left bottom, left top but that was confusing too depending on people's vantage point. It's most telling on the Xbox controllers where physically the shoulders are flat buttons whereas as the triggers are actually shaped like triggers as opposed to PlayStation controllers where the top buttons don't have any physical distinction other than placement. Shoulders and triggers are also more common in most gaming communities

In short: bottom = shoulders, if there only two like the SNES then they are shoulders. Top = triggers

I included the diagrams so they reflect the controls and verbage in emulationstation and so there can be no ambiguity.
