FBA vs. MAME
-
@cosmo0 my bad, I forgot what about this thread was. I'm just curious. how do you guys test both versions and determine which works better?
-
@cosmo0 Neogeo, cps1-2 are best on lr-fbalpha. I'm not sure if the minor sound bugs in Kizuna Encounter and maybe others were ever fixed in lr-fbalpha2012 but I retired my pi2 to bother with that older emulator.
-
rtype.zip works (for me, at least - see 'discussion' earlier) best in mame2003.
tapper.zip (Budweiser version - the one and only) works best in mame2010. In fact, it's the only version I ever got working.I don't understand that you say these games are missing on the lists. My lists above contain many of these games, and they're based on @Pussyfoot 's lists.
I also use fba generally for NeoGeo games. It just seems to work all the way for me.
-
I remember reading fba was the recommended neogeo emulator for speedrun, i guess it means it is supposed to be the most accurate for neogeo.

All Bally Midway MCR System titles, including 'Tapper', should now be fully functional through lr-mame2003 as well thanks to this recent update. AdvanceMAME will run them as well. I love 'Tapper'. It makes the player deal with multitasking in such a fun and addictive way that it almost feels like a falling block puzzle game.

yeah it looks like MAME2003 doesn't have KOF2003/2003, Metal Slug 4/5, Samurai Shodown 5, and SNK vs Capcom (among a bunch of prototypes, bootlegs and demos),
Some of these are now in mame2003-plus. Testers very welcome.

I didn't see your lists... :( I only saw UDB23 Excel file...
Thanks, I'll make sure to update my list for any missing game :)

So, new list for still-missing classics, based on the lists found here:
mame: https://pastebin.com/2UTySn6L
fba: https://pastebin.com/tUMb5CsR
advancemame: https://pastebin.com/2eaqNxGFI will try to test these games.
@thelostsoul : I have no idea how I'll declare one emulator the best one. Edit: Figured it out. I was using a split set instead of non-merged.

vspu.zip from FBA 0.2.97.42 does not work in lr-fbalpha.
The DAT file for .43 is available; have you checked the ROM with it ?
.43 FBA release notes mention that ROMs have been synced with newer Mame sets. -
@udb23 I edited my post once I figured out it was because I grabbed it out of a split set.

Darius Gaiden is incredibly slow on my Pi3 B+ when using lr-fbalpha. It runs faster, but not perfectly, with lr-mame2003. Anyone else having the same experience?
-
@sub_atomic iirc, it is recommended to play taito f3 games with advancemame.

Please feel free to report the issue with Darius Gaiden in mame2003's github repository if you like. I don't think I've seen that submitted as an issue and it may be possible to fix by backporting from a later mame version.

Also, where is the config to identify which games I am using MAME 2010? I know the Rampage games need 2010.
I put all of my roms in the arcade folder and use 2003, 2010, and fba to run them. I found that the emulators.cfg file under configs/all contains the info on which emulator is being used for which particualr rom if it is anything other than the default for that folder.

In the text files linked in this thread, it's listed as best in fb alpha, so that needs to be updated.

I am using mame 2003 at the moment but some games on FBA. I can say FBA is actually a better emulator if you put in accuracy I don't remember what the setting it called. Thou you kinda need your pi overclocked quite a bit for neogeo games and down to run good.
I don't know much about mame settings what you guys say? -
@andershp There was some changes to the gyruss mcu (music core unit) with the new release, let me know if it fixes your "fuzzy" sound issue. The hiscore seems to work properly too.
