So i've got this strange issue that seems to have come up with a new game i loaded. i've got a few PSX titles and don't seem to have any problems with the configuration of my memory card. the games simply seem to recognize an individeual card for each game.

over the weekend i loaded Castlevania SOTN and for whatever reason the memory card keeps dissapearing. If I use Retro-ARch to (select+R1) save state after playing for awhile it's all good. I exit the game play another maybe and come back. it's still there. I reboot the RetroPie and the memory card is gone when i go back. Here's the kicker. If I (Select+L1) to load the save state the memory card is still there and i can continue playing. so for now i'm saving my state when i'm done, but i'm worried this is a very volitile situation and i'd like to avoid losing my progress.

other games seem to retain memory card status without issue. why would this be different?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Note: i've already chmod777 most of if not all of the directories related to ROMS, configurations, etc.
I've also modified the configuration for the emulator to specify the save location as referenced here. https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/3dyki2/changing_the_location_of_savefile_directory_and/
