      I need some help...
whatever I do, when I try to start the mapper (with ctrl+f1 or with -startmapper) I have to do a hard reboot of my retropie.

So: there is somewhere a default mapper that I can download, to be able to play with my PS2 controller?
Just in case, I can edit it - I checked ad the jstest utility runs ok

@alexxx You can find the mapper file, mapper-SVN.map in either of the following locations:

        /opt/retropie/configs/pc

        or

         /home/pi/.dosbox

They are the same file as the two folders are symlinked so it doesn't matter which one you edit.

If you know the button numbers from jstest, then the mapper file can easily be edited. Personally, I created my mapper files on the PC version of DOSBox and transferred the text files to the Pi.

          thank you!
Do you know if this way I can also make the mouse work?
In the first games I tried (Populous, TIM,...) it wasnt working at all, and the timed=false trick in the .conf file didnt work

@alexxx It's not possible to map a mouse to an analog stick in DOSBox. You can use software such Linux Joystick Mapper - which I use - or xboxdrv to achieve this. Here are some useful links:

There is a scriptmodule for the RetroArch version of DOSBox out in the wild but it's currently not available in the setup script. This version, I believe, has in-built mouse support. I'm not sure why it's unavailable but you may wish to follow this thread.

I seem to remember (but I'm at work, will check this evening) that problems could arise when both the controller and the mouse are connected - as are mine at the moment...
