      Hi, im looking to build a arcade cabinet and im only going to have old games that are 4:3 aspect ration. is there anyway to have emulationstation as 4:3? im going to be using a lcd monitor but im only cutting out a 4:3 viewing hole so the frontend will be hidden on the sides which isnt good. i heard recalbox can do this but i couldnt find out how...

      thanks
      mathew

        @mat03111984

        If you want the Pi itself to boot with a certain ratio, this is useful
        http://elinux.org/RPiconfig#Video_mode_options

        An lcd would be hdmi_group=2
        Some info here: https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Video-Issues

        Retroarch based emulation is very flexible in terms of setting aspect ratios, and there is a recent thread about it here:

              @mat03111984 I use a 4:3 monitor and have never had to adjust anythint to make it work. I use an HDMI to DVI adapter. The Pi automatically detects the correct video mode output, and EmulationStation adjusts accordingly.

              I AM ERROR.

                  I didn't correctly understand you earlier that you are going to be physically covering a widescreen monitor.

                  I think you should be able to force a 4:3 video mode following the "elinux" link Floob listed earlier. You may then still need to adjust a setting on your TV to prevent it from stretching the input to widescreen as well.

                  I AM ERROR.
