      Hello all,

      Long time no see and a flash new forum! Although...I really should ask why there seem to be heaps of deleted topics in "Gaming and General Discussion" did the forum get hit by a spam bot or something?

      Anyway, I've been trying for a few days to get zDoom installed on my Raspberry Pi 2 - I've become suspicious that the Wiki entry for it is slightly out of date as the likes of the emulators.cfg files in the basic doom directories don't look as described on the Wiki.

      I'll keep thrashing away at this one and come back if I've any joy.

        Some spam was removed but the topics not purged. I have done that now. Last couple of days have seen some annoying spam which I am looking into additional measures to fix. Unfortunately it looks like they have got past the recaptcha - but one of the problem these days is that many spammers are not "automated" but paid humans.

        It's possible the wiki page is out of date - if you have some better information feel free to improve it. thanks.

          Hey BuZx - bummer about that spam! And pertaining to the zDoom build - if I figure it out I'll be sure to update the wiki, am just a little stuck with it at present!

          Cheers! :D

            So github is playing silly buggers with me and won't let me edit the page (keeps on saying that it cannot be found) so I'll note here. Was a tiny little omission. Need to change the setup detail:

            zdoom="/opt/retropie/ports/zdoom/zdoom -iwad /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/doom2.wad -file /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/zdoom/DarkestHour/"

            to:

            zdoom="/opt/retropie/ports/zdoom/zdoom -iwad /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/doom2.wad -file /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/zdoom/DarkestHour/DarkHour.wad"

            My next challenge will be figuring out why the audio doesn't work. I'd assume other people may have similar issues as this is a fresh install of Retropie 3.7 - but aside from that: thanks for the help and keep up the outstanding work!!!

            EDIT: Managed to fix this on the wiki and am now doing my best to see if I can get the sound going, and brutal doom running (why? Because...like we need a reason?)

              Update: the zDoom installed from the latest repo appears to have an issue with decompressing the zipped pk3 files, I can't track down just what is going wrong as I'm quickly getting out of my depth here - as much as I had to fob this off :(

              EDIT: Have found the debug log. Turns out there was a scripting issue in the PK3 file. Ok, that much done...going back to that sound problem I suppose.

                Adding a quick update here pertaining to the Jul 16 update of zDoom - no such luck getting Brutal Doom running yet - but keep it steady, we're still here trying!

                  So on a whim decided to see if there was a Brutal Doom specifically for zDoom, and as it turns out Brutal Doom Lite fit the ticket, and works through proper setup too. So I guess it's a matter of waiting for the zDoom here to have some passionate individual bring it up to speed, otherwise enjoy!

                    I'm accessing my Pi remotely right now, but I believe I've got the full version of 'Brutal Doom' working. It turns out that a couple of changes need to be made to BLOOD.txt within the .pk3 file, as detailed here. I'll know more when I get home, but my system claims to be running it steadily. Hopefully, by this evening, I'll be bathing in the blood of my fallen enemies... and then I should have some time to play 'Brutal Doom'.

                      @MRKane so is the reason you have no sound because it is a new setup and you didnt go into /boot/config.txt and activate this line:

                      hdmi_drive=2

                      i cant test out brutal doom as my pi's are packed in boxes with all my stuff heading 3000 miles away from here. but i can give you any config info of the 44 doom games and mods i do have. not sure how i missed getting both brutal doom and darkest hour??

                        Well, I was a little premature on the celebration. It does load, but it defaults to plain old 'Doom II'. I can't find any examples of people launching 'Brutal Doom' in ZDoom from the command line, so I'm flying completely blind with my launch command. The only command that showed any promise was:

                        /opt/retropie/ports/zdoom/zdoom +set fullscreen 1 -iwad /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/doom/doom2.wad -file "/home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/brutaldoom/brutalv20b.pk3

                        It gives what appears to be a successful readout in /dev/shm/runcommand.log:

                        doom
                        brutaldoom
                        /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/brutaldoom/brutalv20b.pk3

                                @mediamogul dude!! Its late. Your gonna wake my neighbors. :) so you will have to share with me how you got brutal doom to work. I wished winters fury wasnt so laggy. I had to play half of level 1 with the screen shrunk to the smallest size. Even that wasnt enough to even start the second level.

                                EDIT: I didnt see you already posted the brutal doom info. Maybe this is why i didnt have it.

                                  I don't think it's going to work. After reading more about the current version of ZDoom, it has some serious issues. Some of which I've already noticed. For example, I have 'Chex Quest 3' installed and the hit detection is so off it's mark that it won't open certain doors because it thinks I'm on the other side. Even funnier, I also take damage from opponents through the doors if I stand close enough to them. I may give it another shot in the future, but for now it's just too bugged to warrant any more time.

                                    @mediamogul that has been discussed in another thread. You need to get retropie 3.8.1 and download zdoom without updating retropie setup. I had the same issue. It is the worst on doom ii on easy. Overwrite your zdoom emu with the old one. I thought there was something seriously wrong with chex 3 as it was the first game i found the issue on. I am glad i keep tons of backed up versions not in image form. I back up my roms folder and my opt folder with every single update i do.

                                        @mediamogul yeah when i updated to 4.1.12 i thought it was working but the problem is it doesnt effect some games like it does others so i hadnt noticed. But the chex games and doom 2 on easiest setting are the best way to test. doom 2's first level is short short. If you can kill everyone, in the final room (second room really) there is and elevator that has a guy on it that you cant kill if the zdoom is bad. And it takes like 50 tries to get the final door open. But i dont think you can acually press the exit button

                                          It definitely presents an interesting challenge. You're able to interact with things so long as you step back a few paces first. I'm compiling 2.8.0 now. If it works out alright with the 'Chex Quest' games, I'll start looking back to 'Brutal Doom'.
