Okay so I looked around and found a few things (although I didn't go too deep in the rabbit hole...) but no one complete list. So there is about ten PC systems on retropie but the problem I have is well I don't want a keyboard attached to my pi if I don't have to. It's a pain. One day I might build a retro pc system instead of a retro game system..one that is built around a keyboard..but that is something entirely different.

So the point of this thread is this:
What PC games (from any pc system) want work with a snes pad type controller (or less) or maybe up to a "xbox" type controller (seeing as how the is the "default" anymore). So we are looking at what ten buttons max? (yes I know the about the L3 and R3 buttons..) And I guess the game could be mapped on a case by case per game. Some examples:

      DOS
      Commander Keen
      Duke Nukem (not 3D)
      Jill of the Jungle

In this case (sadly) X-wing would not work to well..really need a keyboard for that
      or Zork..you need to type

      Or How about Commodore64?:
      Raid on Bungling bay
Raid over Moscow (I used to use a joystick but I remember having to use the F1 to launch from the hanger..but it could be mapped i think..)
Elite well maybe..but easier to play with a keyboard..and then when docked you need a lot of keys..

So you get my point I hope..let's make a list of games by system here :D

According to the spreadsheet I made here are the systems (mess was left out intentionally) I also know that Residual VM and ScummVM are not computers..but we can do point a click with a controller..although it can be a pain I guess

A similar thread was posted about this and contains a link if you want to check it out:

        https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/5967/dosbox-games-that-work-well-with-a-controller/5

This site works really well in this regard. If you go to mobygames.com and use the filters, you can select 'input devices' and then 'gravis gamepad' ( similar to an snes controller ) and then it will show you all the games, or you can also narrow it down by system, yeears, etc.

        I'd personally add the following:

Blake Stone : Aliens of Gold
        Bio-Menace
        Alien Carnage/Halloween Harry
        Raptor: Call Of The Shadows
        Jazz Jackrabbit
Invasion Of The Mutant Space Bats Of Doom
        Blackthorne
        Tyrian

There are Retropie ports of some games here :

        https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Ports

I am not sure how many can use just a controller alone. I think controllers work fine with these but I swear I ran into a game where the controller worked but you had to use the keyboard to select/initialize it. Could just have been a bad memory or setup at the time. It was all still new to me back then.

@thedatacereal said in pc games that don't need a keyboard:

          'gravis gamepad'

Yeah I know what it is..I still have my old ones..yes the white one that used the "joystick port" on the PC..yes I'm that old lol

I'll add those links to my op up top Thanks :D

Yes, DOS, sorry. I'll have to really dig back to remember my C64 games :)
