Help setting up controls to the NES and other emulators

Hey I'm having trouble configuring controls on my RP. First time I started it on The NES Emulator couldn't move at all and I reconfigure the controls again and still nothing happen I couldn't move. Second time I mess on the RetroArch to configure controls and I set up everything like it should of have! and now my when I move the D-Pad (Up and Left) it was loading save states and when I press the B button it resets the ROM and when I press Start it exit to the menu. I tried fixing it for hours now and I tried everything that I think of and now I'm having trouble. I'm using an EasySMX controller and its read as a Xbox 360 Controller. (Yes it's an USB Controller) Yes I used another emulator when I tested out another emulator, I tested the SNES and it worked fine. Then when I messed around with the RetroArch it's doing the same thing as before.

@keithmason Sorry but help is impossible.."I mess with", "I tried fixing it", "I used an emulator", "I messed with retroarch", "It's doing the same thing as before". Take a minute. Read your post back and imagine trying to understand what exactly you did and what your issue is and with which emulator.
