Libretro Intellivision Emulator

@recompile I was looking to implement on my system and I noticed that the file
emulators.cfg
in the download from sourceforge refers to a config file--config /opt/retropie/configs/j2me/retroarch.cfg
. I presume it should beintellivision
, and notj2me
. The documentation fileretropie.txt
has the correct entry.@jeepfan1973 In the file
/opt/retropie/configs/intellivision/emulators.cfg
, check that you have the following entry, with no mention ofj2me
:lr-freeintv = "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/bin/retroarch -L /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-freeintv/freeintv_libretro.so --config /opt/retropie/configs/intellivision/retroarch.cfg %ROM%"

That is exactly what I have. Thank you all for your help. I will just wait for the auto installer package. Other priorities right now.

For those looking for a few games to try out with FreeIntv, I've contributed a list with sources for open and freeware Intellivision ROMs to this resource thread: https://retropie.org.uk/forum/post/129594

I just set this up on my pi3. The instructions were very easy to follow for someone who is still learning. Thank you so much to everyone who was a part of making freeintv available! It works fantastic and saves me from having to mess with jzintv. Thanks again!

Looks like I found a bug already :(
Playing biplanes on triple action, I can fly right into the ground without crashing, it just loops me back up to the top of the screen instead and then the planes guns get glitched out and you can't see the bullets shooting anymore.
Edit: also noticed that there is a slight audio crackling/buzzing noise while the emulator is running certain games. If I pause the game the crackling goes away. It is only happening with freeintv.
-
@quicksilver the sound crackling issue has been fixed. I'm still working on biplanes.
-
@recompile you are the man!
Once biplanes is fixed how do I go about updating to the latest version? Do I just manually replace the core?
Also if I find more bugs do you prefer I post them here or on the GitHub page?
-
@quicksilver Victory! You now crash in to the ground on biplanes. Well, I do anyway. I'm pretty bad at that game.
Thanks again for the helpful bug reports. You can post them here or github. I'm really not sure which one is better. I get an email when they're posted on github, but here puts a little public pressure on me :)
Ed: All you need to do to use the new version is update the core. Just copy
freeintv_libretro.so
to/opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-freeintv/
sudo cp freeintv_libretro.so /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-freeintv/
If you have trouble building it, I've just updated the release on sourceforge which has a precompiled binary for the Raspberry Pi 3
-
@recompile just tested it out. The crackling noise is gone which is great. However, it seems like biplanes is only partially fixed. I hate to be a nit picker, but my plane can completely intersect the ground and then the crash happens underground. I can even fly completely underground and then pull up without crashing sometimes. I very much appreciate your hard work on this so I hope you don't mind the feedback.
-
@quicksilver No worries. I have a pretty good idea of what is causing thatproblem . If I'm right, the fix is simple, I just don't like it. Give me a few minutes and I'll check.
-
@quicksilver Sadly, I was right. I've put the fix on github. I'll update it on sourceforge shortly.
-
@recompile great! I will test out first chance I get. Do you know if freeintv will be added at some point to the retropie setup?

There is good reason to think it will be added to RetroPie within the next few days. :)
-
@recompile the updated core works great. I can now crash to my heart's content! If you enjoy intellivision as much as I do you should check this out:
It's a home video of two intellivison programmers who worked for Mattel duking it out in the biplanes game.
Cheers!

Has (lr-)freeintv been added to the Retropie main or optional packages menu? I've just updated the script (using a Pi2) and searched for it there but couldn't find it.
-
@mrskyle It hasn't been added, yet. You can keep an eye on this RetoPie-Setup github PR or subscribe for notifications if you have a github account: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/pull/2293
-
@markwkidd Thanks. I don't have a github account, but I will be keeping tabs on it.
-
@mrskyle if you don't want to wait you can add it manually using the instructions on the first post in this thread. I am not an expert by any means and I found the instructions very easy to follow as they are step by step.
-
If you update RetroPie-Setup I believe you will now find FreeIntv in the "Experimental" section.
-
@markwkidd Thanks! I just installed it. However, I can't seem to find the "intellivision" sub-folder in the "roms" folder to do some proper testing (nor can I find the "BIOS/Machines/COL - ColecoVision/" path for that matter)...
On a side note, any idea why this particular emulator is currently labeled "experimental" rather than "optional"? From what I read elsewhere, I thought it was running quite smoothly.
