NES30 pro connects to bluetooth in Retropie setup, but not emulationstation
-
No matter what I try, I can't get the NES30 to connect via bluetooth in emulationstation.
I followed the steps here: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/8Bitdo-Controller
I can successfully register the controller, and bluetooth works (when the usb cord is unplugged from the controller) in the Retropie setup screen, but as soon as I go back to emulation station or any game, the NES30 isn't detected unless I hard wire it. I've tried starting bluetooth in boot and background. NES30 works when hardwired. I can only configure the controller in emulationstation when it's hard wired. Also went into the command line to check that bluetooth is starting when the retropie boots, and it's active. Again I can use it wirelessly in the setup script, just not when I go back to the emulationstation.
I ran the update script on my retropie and everything is up to date as of last night.

@alkah3st After you pair it via bluetooth, from the setup script, did you configure it in ES ? Try this
- reboot the system and unplug the controller, but leave it on.
- ES should say that no controller is detected. Press one of the buttons on the controller and see if ES detects it, then configure it on the input screen.
Check out this thread for a detailed diagnostic and optimal configurations to connect the NES30 pro.

@mitu Hi @mitu, thanks for the reply. I did try a reboot with the controller on but not connected via USB cable. ES doesn't prompt me for anything, and no combination of key presses on the controller gets ES to recognize the controller, so I can't configure it in ES. If I plug in the controller, then ES sees it and I can control the UI/configure it.
Going to dig through the thread you suggested next.

@mitu yeah so this thread is about the SN30 Pro, but I'm using the NES30. The key combinations and "profiles" they mention here don't apply to me, but I am on the latest firmware (4.01). (Tho I will try switching profiles on the N30 like they describe anyway... will report back in a bit.)

I just configured some SN30 8bitdos today and I know they are a little different but I had a similar issue and don't know if it will help. After the setup, udev, etc. I left them unplugged, powered on, and used a different style wired controller to go to Start>Configure input and then it said '3 Gamepads detected' and let me configure one, which now makes them both work.
On a side note, are the optional setup functions good to do or only if you have issues?

@alkah3st which premade image are you using?
