[RetroPie x64] many many questions from beginners
-
Hello,
First of all, sorry for my very bad english. I'm 50y old and my english is very far :D
I have installed Retropie x64 in Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS on an ASUS G752VM with dedicated SSD.
All seems to works fine, but I have to configure it as I would like to see it working now.I read english documentation, so to be honest, not sure to understand all :P
please don't flame me if I could find reply in this documentation. If you just link me to the right part of the documentation.I have to say too, that I use Recalbox on a RaspBerry Pi3 too but this not the point.
Well, many questions :
-
Is Bios pack from Recalbox the same for Retropie or should I choose a special one for Retropie?
-
When no pad are connected, is there a way to use keyboard to access Menu, etc.. and to play emulated games? if yes where can I find "mapping" controls for keyboard?
-
I tried to configure and XBOX One Pad wired and Razer Wolverine tournament Edtion Pad. With these 2 pads, when I try to map button, all seems fine until System asks for mapping LT and RT. When I press LT (Left Trigger) to map it, system records the right button but just after that, it jumps to Left Analog Stick. So I can't configure RT. Sometimes it does the same with Left Thumb Stick button. So how can I do?
I think I should edit the config file and add manually right mapping button. But how ? -
Is there a way to change default mapping buttons for an Emulator? How?
-
Is there a way to have ALL menus in French?
-
When I start a game, for example, "Slap Figh MD" on Megadrive, I go to a config Menu (the second picture fo this this doc to choose default Emulator. I use always the same, so is there a way to get always the right emulator without having this menu to press "X. Launch" each time?
-
where can I find info about what All settings do in Retropie-Settings menu? Cause I think it's not the same menu as in Retropie when it's installed on Raspberry.
-
Is there a way to make Xbox one Controlelr working with a dongle?
Thank you in advance for your replies
Have a great day. -

If you're referring to the BIOS files needed for an emulator, I think it's the same.

You need to go to the input configuration and map your keyboard, the same as you'd make a controller. Even if the keyboard works in Emulationstation automatically, the games need a gamepad configured.

Is there a way to change default mapping buttons for an Emulator? How?Each controller should have a mapping saved under
/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads
, each controller having one file. You need to modify the mapping as described in
https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#retroarch-controls. Usejstest
to record the gamepad buttons, take note of the button value and modify the .cfg file for the gamepad accordingly. The page I linked describes how to do that.Is there a way to have ALL menus in French?
No, the Emulationstation version used in RetroPie does not have this feature.
When I start a game, for example, "Slap Figh MD" on Megadrive, I go to a config Menu (the second picture fo this this doc to choose default Emulator. I use always the same, so is there a way to get always the right emulator without having this menu to press "X. Launch" each time?
Assuming you're talking about the Runcommand launch meu, you have the option to 'Choose default emulator for system', once you select the emulator in this menu option, it will be saved and you don't have to change it again (for each ROM).
where can I find info about what All settings do in Retropie-Settings menu? Cause I think it's not the same menu as in Retropie when it's installed on Raspberry.
I assume that you wanted to say
Recalbox on Raspberry PI
. Most of the menus have a 'Help' link, others have a reference in the docs. If you have a specific question, ask here in the forums. Is there a way to make Xbox one Controlelr working with a dongle?
I think so, the dongle should make the controller look like an USB device, which should be easily recognizable by RetroPie. I only used the Xbox One controller via microUSB, but maybe others can chime in.

First of all, THANK you for taking time to reply :D
Well... i will read quietly your replies and try all you say.
I will come back with (other) questions if any.Thank you again :D

@mitu
ehm... No I was speaking about Retropie on Raspberry (not Recalbox). Menu doesnt seem to be the same as X64 Menu, cause I saw (dont remember where) there were a menu to change it in French :D
Well... no problem.
There is something i can't find and i'm not sure you replied.
Question 4: Is there a way to modify Joypad settings for:- Only one Emulator (like Megadrive for example)?
- Only one game?
Cause link you gave me (/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads) is for all.
TIA

Only one game?Yes, take a look at https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#config-hierarchy. You can do those changes from RetroArch itself, by starting the RGUI (
Select + X
), making the required changes to the input, then choosing to save the re-mapping for Core/Game - https://retropie.org.uk/docs/RetroArch-Configuration/#config-hierarchy. -

As I said, there is no support for other languages in the Emulationstation included in RetroPie, no matter the platform. Note that Recalbox uses their own forked version of Emulationstation, with support for foreign languages, so you might have seen screenshots from Recalbox.

@mitu Hello
Thank you again for your replies.
You probably right, it was a own forked version of EmulationStation.Well.. I read the link you gave me. But I dont understand. I'm probably stupid, sorry.
Here what I did :- I configured all my differents pads (XOne Elite, XOne, X360 and Razer XOne). I backuped these files.
All these files are in /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads
So these .cfg files will be use for all emulators and all games...
For Megadrive roms (all of them) I wanted to switch B button with Y button.
For Mame roms (all of them) Iwanted to switch A button with Y button
So I think I can copy my "Microsoft X-Box 360 pad.cfg" (I will do for all "pads.cfg"), then I edit it, I replace buttons values as i want to switch B with Y for example. Then i dont understand what i have to do with this new file?
Do I have to copy it in /opt/retropie/configs/megadrive ?
I'm not sure cause if i read the tutorial, I have to copy retroarch.cfg in megadrive not the pads.cfg... and how to say to the system that it should use this pad.cfg...
Sorry i really don't understand - I configured all my differents pads (XOne Elite, XOne, X360 and Razer XOne). I backuped these files.

@xboxwin You don't need to fiddle with configuration files, as I said you can do this from the RetroArch GUI.
Start a Megadrive ROM, then pressSelect + X
on the gamepad (orHotkey + X
if you selected a different button as the Hotkey for that gamepad). This should bring up the RGUI (RetroArch Gui). Go toControls
, where you assign the buttons on your gamepad to the emulators' buttons - i.e.User 1 B
can be your Y button andUser 1 Y
can be your B button. After you do this, scroll up and chooseSave Core Remap File
and you're done.
Next time you'll start a Megadrive ROM, the new mapping will be applied.
You can do the same for MAME, as long as the emulator you're using is a RetroArch core (lr-mame2003, lr-fbalpha, any lr-xyz emulator). -
@mitu ehm ok. I think i already did this.
I pressed RT on my pad. I got a menu with Input (General), input (this game), etc...
I choose input this game.. and try to change button but after that button doesnt work anymore.
And if I press Hotkey + X or Select + X, nothing happensEDIT; Ok. I got your menu. Same as in Recalbox... :D
-
@xboxwin That sounds like a Mame menu, are you getting this menu when running a Megadrive Rom or on an Arcade game ? What emulator are you running ?
-
@mitu yes. It's ok. I edited my previous post. I got the menu. It's the same as in Recalbox. So i know it cause i have a Recalbox installed on Raspberry too. But here i'm on a PC with RetroPie
I try and come back if needed.
Thank you :D -
@mitu I got the menu but I can't navigate in. I tried to press arrows from pad, joystick, arrows from keyboard.... I can't move to the control option... and my pad works well in gale and for all.
-
@xboxwin The menu navigation should work with the D-pad.
-
@mitu it should :D but doesn't :/
-
@xboxwin Maybe because the keyboard is the 1st gamepad. Can you disconnect the keyboard while in Emulationstation, then use the gamepad only to start a ROM and enter the RGUI ?
-
@mitu it's a Laptop. I can't disconnect keyboard. I can navigate with pad... and try Guantlet with 4 players and 4 gamepads.. and all works.
I dont understand why I can't move in this menuEDIT: Ok. I found. it's the mouse :D By using the wheels I can go to control options :D
I try...Thank you again of course :D
-
@mitu sorry again.
So ok... I can swap button as wanted but. I can't swap D-Pad with Joystick.
Is there a way to do that except by changing setup in General Menu from Retropie?
Cause if i do that, for PSP game or PSX game I will have to use D-Pad. And it will not be good :DEDIT: I think I found. I have to change Analog to Digital and choose Left Analog... Right?

Yes, that's it.
