      @caffecomborras Your screen is manufactured by Waveshare. I am using a similar Waveshare 5 in screen but they are very close. Sounds like you know what your doing with the hardware as your screen works with raspian so we know the screen is OK. If you can boot up your retropie (just can't see it on your 5 in screen) you can ssh into the pi and check the file config.txt in the boot folder. Look for the lines"hdmi_force_hotplug=1" and "hdmi_safe=1" and see if they are commented out. On my Pi3 with retropie 3.7 they are not in use but you could try changing them to "safe mode". I hope this helps. One thing I thought of. Can you see your retropie on a large hdmi tv? Let me know. I am always glad to help.

        this and the script inside the config.txt

        "

        For more options and information see

        http://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt.md

        Some settings may impact device functionality. See link above for details

        Uncomment if you get the picture on HDMI is the default "safe" mode

        1 = hdmi_safe

        Uncomment this if your display has a black border of unused pixels visible

        And can output your display without overscan

        1 = disable_overscan

        Uncomment The Following to adjust overscan. Use positive numbers if console

        Goes off screen, and negative if there is too much border

        = 16 overscan_left

        = 16 overscan_right

        = 16 overscan_top

        = 16 overscan_bottom

        Uncomment to force the size console. By default it will be display's size minus

        Overscan.

        Framebuffer_width = 1280

        Framebuffer_height = 720

        Uncomment if hdmi is not detected and display composite is being output

        1 = hdmi_force_hotplug

        Uncomment to force the HDMI specific mode (this will force VGA)

        1 = hdmi_group

        1 = hdmi_mode

        Uncomment to force the HDMI mode rather than DVI. This can make audio work in

        DMT (computer monitor) modes

        2 = hdmi_drive

        Uncomment to Increase signal to HDMI, if you have interference, blanking, or

        On display

        4 = config_hdmi_boost

        Uncomment for composite PAL

        2 = sdtv_mode

        #uncomment to overclock the arm. 700 MHz is the default.

        = 800 arm_freq

        Uncomment some or all of These to enable the optional hardware interfaces

        Dtparam i2c_arm = = on

        Dtparam i2s = = on

        Dtparam = spi = on

        Uncomment this to enable the lirc-RPI module

        Dtoverlay = lirc-RPI

        Additional overlays and parameters are documented / boot / Overlays / README

        Enable audio (loads snd_bcm2835)

        dtparam = audio = on

        gpu_mem_256 = 128
        gpu_mem_512 = 256
        gpu_mem_1024 = 256
        overscan_scale = 1 "

        what is that you say?

          @caffecomborras We can't read your file correctly when it is just cut and paste. Please read "https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first" and "http://commonmark.org/help/". Those hashtags are very important as any line that starts with in is ignored by the program.

                @caffecomborras Here is a link to a youtube video that explaines the setup of your 5 in screen "

                ". It looks different because it gets it power from the gpio pins but the setup is the same. I don't use the touch screen so all I did is add these 3 lines to the bottom of the file /boot/config.txt.

                hdmi_group=2
                hdmi_mode=87
                hdmi_cvt 800 480 60 6 0 0 0

                I haven't tried the touch screen so I don't know how that works.

                Hope this helps

                  Also, your screenshot has a rainbow box in the corner. Your Pi is under powered. The rainbow colored box indicates low voltage.

                              for 5 inch LCD

                              edit on /boot/config.txt.

                              search, replace and add this

                              hdmi_group=2
                              hdmi_mode=87
                              hdmi_cvt 800 480 60 6 0 0 0
                              hdmi_drive=1

                              save and try boot again
