@bobharris That makes two of us now. I really thought I'd solved it.

It's not emulated. I thought because of the performance difference I saw and because the LR docs say to use the 500x bios specifically that meant it wouldn't recognise other BIOS files.

It does, I checked runcommand.log. If it sees 550x BIOS it will use that, if it sees 100x BIOS it will use that. It only falls back to emulated if it sees no BIOS file at all.

@stoo I always wondered about that. I've thought about putting every ps1 bios file in the bios folder, hoping pcsxrearmed would choose the optimal file for every game, but I have no idea what pcsxrearmed chooses when confronted with multiple bios files.
Getting a bit off topic though..

So I deleted SCPH1001.BIN and used scph5500.bin, scph5501.bin and scph5502.bin. I notice that it's now a bit better, the framedrops are more smooth and the game is more smooth overall. Maybe I had a bad BIOS file? Thanks for the help from all of you!

@bobharris Well with both 1001 and 5501 in there it chose to use 5501. How it decides I have no idea.

@stoo I guess maybe it chooses the latest version of the specific region then. Thanks for checking!
