Feature request: mono output
-
Apologize if this isn't the right place to post requests (I hate posting requests in general, to be honest...)
I think it would be helpful to have a user-friendly way to downmix all audio output to mono. I occasionally use the composite 240p option with an old trinitron TV, and it only supports mono. Genesis games in particular seem to lose sound effects/music as a result of only hooking up the left (or right) audio channel.
I'm already aware of (and have used) custom ALSA configuration files to downmix all audio output equally to both channels, but it'd be nice to be able to select mono output from a menu somewhere.
As for implementation, I'm not sufficiently aware of the Retropie architecture to make an informed decision. As I mentioned, I know ALSA can be configured to do it system-wide. But is ALSA config something that Retropie should even be messing with? Is mono audio an option that retroarch supports that might be a better way to handle it?
Just some thoughts.

You can always bypass software and just splice together a cable that combines the stereo audio channels into one output. Just strip the left and right channel wires, wire the grounds together, solder a 1kΩ resistor to the end of each audio channel and combine them together to get a solid mono output from a stereo source.
Contributions to the project are always appreciated, so if you would like to support us with a donation you can do so here.
