ROMS open then immediatly close

Hello,
Yesterday I encountered a problem with my RetroPie emulators. I am trying to create a homemade arcade cabinet, and I am using RetroPie on a Rasberry Pi 3 Model B to do it. I first loaded up Doom and fiddled around with it for a while, and it worked fine. I then got a usb stick, followed the instructions for installing roms, and put Street Fighter 2 (the arcade version) on the stick in the arcade folder and plugged it into the Pi. It worked great, so I plugged the stick back into my laptop and put Galaga and Super Street Fighter 2 (both were arcade versions) in the arcade folder. This time, when I plugged in the stick to the Pi, I followed the steps exactly as before , but when I select the roms from the page, they begin to load up, then the screen goes black and it fades back into the roms screen. This is true for the two new games I put on, SSF2 and Galaga, but the first Street Fighter I put on still worked fine. I reinstalled Galaga by itself again, thinking that the two games at once was the problem, but it still didnt work. I then wiped the SD card of the operating system and reinstalled it from a new download. Yet again, when I try to load Galaga up, it immediately closes and goes back to the roms screen. I tried to load Street Fighter again (the rom that worked before) thinking that it might be a problem with the actual file of the other games, but I got the same problem that I got with Galaga.
The game starts to load, the screen goes black, then it returns to the roms screen. No error message or anything. I know others were having a similar issue with the RCA video format, but I am using HDMI. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As you're talking about arcade games, this is likely to help you resolve the issue.
https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMsWhen you try to play arcade games on emulators it is very important to make sure they are the correct version for that emulator - its not like console roms where it will likely work with any emulator.

@Floob So I followed the instructions from the website, and when I loaded up the roms on RetroPi, instead of the immediate closure of the rom, I got an error saying that I am missing files. Any ideas?

@heroshade644 select an other default emulator for the roms. When you start the rom press a or an other key and go to the second config. Then try all the emulators there are listed there. If you do that the missing files message will not come next time and sometimes roms are working after that. But the others will have the same problem you have described. If you have find a sollution for that please reply:)

@heroshade644 if it says you are missing files then you have the wrong romset for the emulator you are trying to use.
This link goes over the romsets for the mame emulators.
