Pi Model or other hardware: Zero 1.1 Wifi
      Power Supply used: 5v 2.4a
RetroPie Version Used (eg 3.6, 3.8.1, 4.1 - do not write latest): 4.3
      Built From: retropie-4.3-rpi1_zero.img
      USB Devices connected: Mouse, keyboard
      Controller used: NEXT SNES
      How to replicate the problem:

Fresh install and in first boot I get the controller config, i program the SNES controller then after I do the right bumper I hit F4 and it quits back to CLI prompt

Am missing something to save the controller config? To get to the main menu?

I have tried this with a Pi B 3 with the appropriate img file and an different SD card and power supply, same result. How do I get the controller config to save and get to the root menu GUI?

@phox F4 is the shortcut for 'Exit Emulationstation', so the exit to the CLI is normal.
It's not quite clear what your problem is, you say you can configure the controller, so you should finish configuring it in the input configuration dialog until you're returned to the main Emulationstation menu. After you finish configuring it, the configuration should be saved.

Ah thats what I figured. When I program the controller it wants me to enter left and right trigger but the controller doesn't have those buttons. What do I do after I programmed the last button?

@phox Any button you don't have on the controller can be skipped by pressing one of the already mapped buttons. This is written on the top of the mapping dialog. When you're finished, just press ok (A) and you're done.

There is an "OK" button at the bottom of the configure menu but how do I click it? Mouse doesnt move, controller doesnt go up or down and keyboard doesnt do anything (tried hitting down arrow, enter, escape, tab, ect. ) only thing that seems to work on the keyboard is F4

@phox Seriously ? It says on the top Hold a button to skip:
                    alt text
Just keep A pressed and it will go on to the next button, until you get to the end.

All this is clearly detailed in our installation instructions.

But, there seems to be an issue for some (me) when reaching the Ok screen.
I can't get past it either.
Yes, I read "Follow the onscreen instructions to configure your gamepad- if you run out of buttons just hold down a button to skip each unused button. When you get to OK press the button you have configured as "A"."
But, pressing the button assigned to "A" does nothing???
Pressing the button assigned to "A" doesn't activate the "OK" button on the screen.
I had to unplug and repower it up, then Retropie won't reboot?
I think some of us having the problem may be using the Zero Delay Encoders and there my be some conflict.
I've ordered the powerblock which I am assuming works flawlessly (since it was made for Raspberry) with Retropie.
                          I'll let you know....

@kaptainsteve after you pressed the button you configured as A how long did you wait? (It does some processing in the background - on a rpi zero or 1 and with a slow sd card, it may take some time.)

@kaptainsteve oh - I thought you were the original poster. You need to start a new topic when you have an issue as your configuration will be different and we need your info.

As I said above "I had to unplug and repower it up, then Retropie won't reboot?"
Therefore, getting any kind of log is not possible.
This person seems to have the exact same issue I'm having so I didn't think it would hurt to jump on the thread.

I'm trying again today, with a new Retropie, and I'm repeating the same issue. I'm taking your advice and being very patient a giving it plenty of time...

Yes,,, I think it's doing something.... I got a black screen now.... I'm being patient... it's not doing anything except being a black screen for a few minutes....

SUCCESS! I hit the "b" button and Retropie is there.

                                Thanks for your help.
