InputStation?

I saw InputStation on Florian's GitHub. This was/is a great idea. Is there a reason this hasn't been updated since 2015? I pretty much only use AttractMode and would love to have a standalone input configuration tool that could be launched from it (like a port) or from the command line. Is there any reason why the approach of pulling out the EmulationStation's gamepad configuration screen and making it a standalone app in and of itself is a flawed idea?
I had been considering doing something like this myself. Any input before I begin tackling this type of project would be appreciated.
