Wiimote

@kmetz7547 Plug in the DolphinBar to the first USB port (top left) so it's the "Player One" slot. Sync the Wiimote to the DolphinBar by pressing the Sync buttons on both Wiimote and DolphinBar. Now there are a few ways you can go from here. I put my DolphinBar on Mode 1 and from there you have to pair the Wiimote to the Bluetooth in your Pi, through the RetroPie menu on EmulationStation, under the BlueTooth menu. After I got this set up, I was told that you can put your DolphinBar on Mode 2 and you don't need to pair the BlueTooth. Other than that, just make sure your gun games are set to the AdvMame 1.4 emulator as the default emulator and that should be it. When the game loads up, you should be able to see and move the crosshairs right away. I have just over 50 games that work on my setup but I know there are a lot more out there, haven't had time to tinker with it in awhile. Best o luck!

@bgallagherla I just got my dolphinbar yesterday. I didn't need to pair anything to the pi's bt. I wanted to play Revolution X and was sorely dissappointed how the audio is really off in advmame 1.4. To my surprise, the wiimote works in mame2003 and so does Revolution X so I'll be using that for my light gun games.
-
@Darksavior and you use the dolphinbar on mode 1?
-
and why must it be port 1? my pads are already configured in the top 2 ports... do i have to remap again?
also, anyone have any artwork for the emulation station system image for lightgun games?
Thanks for the help guys -
You use mode 1 or two (idr) and then bind your Wiimote to the bar, the buttons on the controller will be bound to keyboard keys so you go into the advmame menu and set the buttons to whatever works.
-
@kmetz7547 I'm using mode 2. I noticed the aiming would freeze for a split second when pressing buttons in mode 1 in mame2003 playing Revolution X. I'm having a problem now where some buttons can't be binded in mode 2. It's becoming irritating that I can't edit the cfg file either. Binding works fine in mode 1.
Also, you can plug it into any usb port. You can sort out the order by either going to retropie setup's config edit section or get meleu's joystick config app which is what I'm using.
-
@bgallagherla if you use mode two you dont have to hook it up to the bluetooth. I have never tried mode 1 so not sure about what needs to be done there. I need to find my manual so i can see what mode 1 does.
-
@darksavior its because they are mouse buttons is why you cant bind to them.
-
@edmaul69 The problem is that it will bind buttons but only to a few buttons. For example, I can bind to the wiimote's A, home, + but not to -,1,2,trigger. And yes, they are mouse buttons, which is why I wanted to edit the cfg but its a garbled mess. For some reason, reloading the game I manage to bind the trigger and that's all I really need. Unless you know of a way to fix the split second freeze of the crosshair when pressing a button/trigger on mode1, I'd be glad to use that instead.
Sorry to @Kmetz7547 in semi taking over the thread. I can start another if more of the conv continues.

Help
When I hook it up that way (port 1, advmame1.4, mode 1 or 2)...only the directional pad works. Any ideas why it's not working with the motion? -
@kmetz7547 i could be wrong, but when in game you might need to use tab on the keyboard and set it up to use a lightgun or mouse as lightgun.
-
that dont work either.. im very confused here. there has to be an easier way
-
@edmaul69 Did you sync the Wiimote to your DolphinBar?
-
@bgallagherla yes. It is synced to the dolphinbar. Not synced to Bluetooth at all.
-
I followed the advice in this thread last night to get Advmame 1.4 working for a few gun games with my Dolphin bar.
I did have problems mapping the buttons in the “Tab” menu. If you are still having trouble make sure you edit the input settings for All Games and not just “This Game”. For some reason I was not able to change any button assignments under the “This Game” options.
Maybe that will help.
-
No matter what I do, I can't get the motion to work. I have it synced to the dolphin bar but only the directional pad works. Is there a cfg file somewhere that needs to be edited at all?
-
@kmetz7547 what emulator are you using? I had trouble getting Buttons to work but motion picked up as if it was a mouse immediately.
-
@chuckyp also make sure you are in mode 2 (Mouse Mode). You can select it from the wii bar or press the Home button and Left on the directional Pad of the Wiimote.
-
@chuckyp
I'm using advmame 1.4.
I'm also using someone else's image (neopi from arcadepunks)
I put it in mode 2 and get no motion, just the direction d pad works.. this is driving me crazy. I'm about to return the dolphin bar and invest in the Amtrak gun -
@kmetz7547 I doubt it’s the bar. If it’s a 3rd Party configuration they could have set specific controller types or other locked input configs. Hard to troubleshoot a symptom when there are so many unknowns like that. If you have a spare SD Card you could do a fresh install of RetroPie and drop a few ROMs in and see.
It may be the romset version that is being used is wrong. Each MAME release is tied to a specific romset. It literally works like magic when the correct elements come together. It’s quite a “Rabbit Hole” to dive into if you aren’t familiar with it. But MAME is an exact science for the most part.
EDIT: I also have an AimTrack and it has its own issues. You need to calibrate each time a new user plays. And widescreen monitors playing 4:3 games get confused on what the screen limits are if you don’t calibrate correctly. The advantage being you don’t need the Crosshair visible as it is accurate enough with the sight on the gun. But Wiimote is much more user friendly.
