@alturis I find its half the fun to setup, search and decide which games to include. On my first setup, I think I added too much now, but its ok. My next one will be a 8gb only. :-)

So true. I actually got a 64 gig microSD upgrade from my original 8 gig. But I am still sitting at about 7.5 gigs.

I have added games that I thought I wanted and then later removed them because they were shite compared to an existing similar game. (Joust2 was removed, even after carefully setting it up with image, marquee, video, overlay, in favor of just keeping the original Joust for example)

And yes I agree, I find enjoyment in the process of adding a new game. Sometimes more than playing it. ;)

          the 'reference sets' are non-merged.

Yes, some are. But not the ones I found originally. I promise. ;)
I know because I looked at the contents of the zip files and many of the games I tried to install at first were mysteriously small and would not run until I figured out how the system works.

the sets are unchanged. you can see the upload date on the page. mame2010, mame2003 and mame2000 sets are all from 2016. i dunno where you got yours!

Maybe a different approach than half the others out there who want every possible working game installed.

that's not what i do. with a non-merged set you can delete whatever you don't want without having to worry about dependencies. or, just add individual files from the set. you can even download individual ones from the site we're (not) talking about.

          still, whatever works for you.

Yep, I have done that too. I just prefer to keep a split copy locally in the event the site suddenly goes down.

I have said many times that Split and Merged sets are just a quirk of 1990s sneakernet technology but I will have to remember that some folks do prefer formats like that their own merits! It takes all kinds
