your 7 inch screen might not go up to 1920 x 1080 which is what your tv will support. You might have to change the resolution in the config file to the max of what your screen can support. There's also these settings... hdmi_force_hotplug=1, config_hdmi_boost=4 and there's also a mode one but i can't remember the actual setting. The mode equals the resolution and screen refresh of your screen that you are setting up.

Does it still work with your tv or do you need to SCP into it?

@ballboff The HDMI won't work anymore.

I connect to my raspberry using ssh as there is no display anymore (neither the official screen nor the HDMI -> TV work).

hdmi_force_hotplug=1 and config_hdmi_boost=4 are set when using hdmi_safe=1, it didn't make the HDMI work.

About the resolution problem for the 7'' screen, do you mean that if I don't change the resolution in the configuration it won't work? I thought that the official screen would at least turn on no matter what, even if it looks bad for some reason.

May that be the problem? Should I just configure somewhere the resolution of 800*480?

        Thanks for your help!

well I thought it would at least work through your tv to be honest, as your tv is more adaptable to whatever resolution is being fed in. All I know is that i've used a 7 inch and an 8 inch display before and I had to hardcode the resolutions into the config file before they even showed anything up, and if they did show anything it was usually garbled up and unreadable.

Well, that would make sense. I will try hardcoding the resolution once I see my raspberry working again with the HDMI, I prefer not to touch it too much until I now that it is indeed working fine. Right now it seems like it is broken and if that's the case I will have to return it asap :(

            Let's hope it's not broken.

            Thanks!

              Up!

              Any suggestions?

I'm about to try to return the raspberry, I can't think of more ways to make the HDMI work.

You have changed settings. My advice at this point would be to test a clean install of raspbian, if possible on a different sd card. That would at least tell you if its a software or hardware issue.

                  @kikinaak

I've been trying doing clean installs of retropie but no luck. Just now I did a clean install of the latest rasbian (2018-03-13-raspbian-stretch) with the same results: the raspberry pi seems to start fine but there is no HDMI display.

Anything else I can try before telling the seller that I will be returning the raspberry?

It really seems like I'm out of options.

Thanks to you all for your help and please let me know if you have any other ideas.

BTW: I did a test with a different microSD (also of 32GB but a different brand and an older card that has been working fine for a long time). Same result, no HDMI output although everything else looks fine.

                    I'm getting a replacement raspberry pi 3.

                    Thanks for the help.

You cant use the touchscreen and hdmi together. You must choose one off the two.

@bense2k Yes, no worries. I've been trying to use the HDMI with no screen connected.
