emulation Station Menu not responding to keyboard
-
Hey all,
Just got my raspberry pi model 3b, setup with raspbian and retropie, and for most of my problems/hiccups i've been able to google my way to a solution, but not this one, so hopefully someone can help me out.
In the emulation station main menu, only my controller works, not my keyboard. when i enter other menus/programs (file manager, dosbox etc) the keyboard works fine. how do i enable my keyboard to work on the main menu?
Any help is greatly appreciated,
-Pete

Did it work at one time and now isn't? If it never worked, are you sure you mapped the keyboard through the joystick configuration menu in Emulation Station?

hey mediamogul
I think the keyboard did work at one time, but i honestly can't say for sure. either way, the keyboard hasn't worked in the main menu for a long time. pressing a key on the keyboard doesn't start 'configure input'. if i go to edit input, i can get the keyboard to work, but then the controller stops working. I should probably peek around the files on the drive and see where these settings are actually saved.
anyways. just to be clear about my problem.
in the main menu of emulation station, my controller works but my keyboard doesn't. however, both my keyboard and controller work in other menus/games. just not in the main selection menu. odd.alrighty. thanks for the reply mediamogul,

In case you need the information, you'll find that file at
/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/es_input.cfg
. There should be an entry in it named 'keyboard' with the various key mappings. -
odd.
this time when i removed the controller, and restarted emulation station, it let me configure my keyboard. I plugged in the controller, and yep, both the controller and keyboard work. I went back and checked the config file you posted, and now there are two entries, one for the controller and one for keyboard.thanks for the help mogul.
goes back to figuring the best dosbox settings to get blood to run at a decent resolution-Pete
