Ok, I just had to say it. It is "scrape", right? I mean, the game art scraper rhymes with "paper", NOT scrapper rhymes with "wrapper", right?

This minor offense is pretty common--even on how-to youtube videos, and I laugh (and cringe) just a little bit every time I see and read it. Anyone else? Forgive me for being knit picky, but I already feel better getting this off my chest.

I figured. The word choice for web scraping is an interesting metaphor analogous to someone using a knife to scrape the bark off of a tree, or to scrape the chocolate frosting off of cake--or a more direct analogy--scraping the sticker/label off of a cartridge.

Interesting too is how someone who misreads the word as "scrap" could take the analogy of scraps in a scrapbook--collections of pieces from other mediums (sites). That analogy fits too which probably accounts for some of the misunderstanding.

It is like calling a whiteboard a "wipe board". It is wrong, but sounds like it could be correct. Not quite as bad as when someone says, "No holds barred" but was misheard as, "No holes barred".

This is definitely different than saying "gif" with a hard "g".

@caver01 Haha ! I feel the same way every time I see "scrapper" . As well as "room" instead of rom.

@caver01 I didn't notice such spelling error very often here like you obviously did. In contrast, I see other common mistakes like their/there/they're all the time, although those words should be much more known to most people as "scraper" in this context.

I'm an "Atari child". To this day it bugs the hell out of me when someone wants to see the tapes that go into the Atari system...

Growing older is mandatory. Growing up is optional!

Hearing that always reminds me of this.

The main thing that does my head in on the forum is when somebody asks a question in just one long sentence, without any punctuation at all. Just one great big list of continuous prose. ARRGH!

@markyh444 Why is that such a big deal I mean you can still read what they are asking can't you or is it that the lack of punctuation leaves a lot of ambiguity you cannot answer or you don't want to?

                      ;-) Could not resist.

Yes, how do I use a scrapper to get metaldata for my Romas?
                          Thanks in advanced!

@jonnykesh Well, first you have to wait until your tomatoes are ripe. Then you wave a magnet over them and write down the the readings. OR you can plug in a headphone jack and listen for some AC/DC. If that doesn't work put voltmeter in the same puncture and see if you pick up any AC/DC or maybe Metallica. After that you throw everything in the trash. If you want to be environmentally aware you have to stop for a moment and notice the harm this will have as you throw it all in the trash. You have then scrapped the metaldata of your Romas. You can eat the tomatoes at that point.

@caver01 I never thought about what "no holds barred" literally meant until reading it just now. "No holes barred" has to exist as some porno title.

                            ...
Being new I always read it in my head as scrape like you were scraping the top layer of information from various sources.

I will admit that until recently I was pronouncing in my head libretro as some Spanish word I didn't under stand Libret-ro and not lib-retro (as in library retro)
