Hi, I have a Sega Genesis hub with a Pi inside and always wanted a decent theme to go with it. I've seen one by Simply Austin, but it wasn't finished and lacked support for non-Sega systems. I don't have any experience with creating themes (something I will be researching from this point forward), but I managed to changed the backgrounds of lilbud's awesome Switch Dark theme to kind of create something that would fit nicely with my Genesis Pi. Here are some pics captured by taking pics of my TV screen:

      Splash:
      Splash

      Menu:
      Menu

      Game selection:

I love the the look, but of course the graphics are off a bit. If anyone who has more experience creating themes or could edit the images so they display properly on the screens (The Sega Genesis Classics logo is too big for the menu screen which leads to its bottom being overlapped.), any help would be greatly appreciated. Regardless, if it's a modification of an existing theme or a brand new theme entirely. Hopefully, some good things can come out of this thread and I will update it with any personal followups accordingly.

Here are the untouched images for anyone who wants to experiment. Thanks.

I would remove the genesis logo from the bacgrkound. It looks heavy and there are other systems too so you dont need it

You possibly may be right about that. My Pi looks like a Genesis, so I like to have that theme, but I like to have all systems on one SD card as well.

I think, personally for my system, the Splash screen is okay, I possibly could keep the systems menu as is on the default theme, then for the game selection for each system, have a custom background for each system (Edit: I don't actually think you can do this, I may have misspoke). I set ES on startup to go directly to my Genesis games (Then of course, press B from there to go to the menu and select other systems.), so that would be a great option.

But I guess these official Sega images would still be great for a theme with Sega-only systems. I believe I read that Simply Austin's Genesis "theme" wasn't a theme at all, but a modified version of ES. So there's not really an option that I'm aware of at the moment as far as a true Genesis theme goes.

Reading the game names and game description directly on top of that background is really hard on the eyes. It would be better if there was some box behind the text to make the text pop out more to make it easier to read.

You actually can do that. Since the themes are based on layers it is possible to have one global background image and put different images on top. Setting up different images for each system can be done by the old method, where you have to create a separate theme.xml in its own systemname folder. Or by using variables and have all images in its own decicated folders.
The theme from @chicuelo is using that method to display different controller and character images on the carousel but it can easily be added to gamelist view.
