[Rpi 3] Kodi 18 Milhouse build on retropie

Hello guys! I would like to test the latest build of Kodi 18 by Milhouse.
I actually have Kodi v17.4 installed, how can I install the latest build by Milhouse?

@chuck_b you can install libreelec instead of retropie or you can hurry up and wait til Kodi 18 stable is released by the maintainer for the Kodi build for retropie and update it through the setup script

I've seen around where you've experimented with RetroPlayer from v18 on the Raspberry Pi, but I don't think I've ever read your impressions on it.

Raspbian and therefore RetroPie "only" has the latest stable versions of Kodi. In the near future I might provide Kodi 18 beta/test versions, when it gets closer to the final/stable release, but there is no schedule defined for that by now.

If you want to try Kodi 18 Milhouse builds I would recommend that you get another sdcard and install it there.
You can also use Noobs or Pinn to install more than one OS in the same sdcard, and have an option to boot the OS you want at startup but I can't help you much because I only tried them once or twice for test purposes.
Keep in mind that Kodi Milhouse builds are test versions of Kodi so I think the best is to install it to another sdcard to avoid problems.

Some time ago I tried Kodi with RetroPlayer, not the Milhouse Kodi 18 builds but the Garbear images (the guy who develops the RetroPlayer). I only tried megadrive, snes and MAME (old one) emulators I think, and they worked reasonably well. The performance was good, but I got occasional noticceable slowdows in more demanding games. And they weren't really big games, all of them worked perfect on RetroPie. But that was like about 1 year ago, most likely there was big improvements. I tested with one Logitech controller which worked fine, but an older chinese gamepad which I forgot the name which works with RetroPie, didn't worked.
Next time I will try it, it will be on Raspbian/RetroPie, but I still have to find out how to build all kodi retroarch cores addons/plugins ;)

@mediamogul I tested it a while back likely it's improved a bit since then but I think I'll still stick with standalone retropie. I could see it being more practical on a PC or heftier machine. I feel like integration with Kodi on a weak pi is just one more layer of overhead. Not to say it doesn't function but it would be interesting to see a comparison of performance of retroplayer vs standalone cores in retropie

All very interesting. I look forward to testing it myself. Several people I know want to retro-game but have no interest in configuration past mapping a controller. I've recommended Recalbox and Lakka in the past, but from what I've seen, this could be a nice solution as well for some of the less demanding cores.

Milhouse Kodi 18 testbuilds are LibreElec, which is an own embeded OS. You don't install it on Raspbian, whatever the version is. You can install it on another SD card or alonside RetroPie like explained in post #3.

I was interested on Milhouse build because it's best way to play 10-bit x265 videos on raspberry pi 3.
I installed it on a new sd card but they don't smooth enough, so i think I'll give up on trying playing 10-bit x265 videos
