New FBA released: 0.2.97.43

Is there anything special I need to do to get this to update in Retropie? I just updated lr-fbalpha from source, everything seemed to run fine but it still shows v0.2.97.42 even after a reboot.
-
@semisolidwhale if you updated from source you should get .43.
I’d suggest to retry, first updating retropie setup script and then lr-fba from source. -
@udb23 the binaries should be .43 also. Built last week or so.

@buzz
For information, I just did a full update, and lr-fbalpha is still in 0.2.97.42.
That said, it is for testing, I'm not in a rush to replace my FBA ROMs again :)Edit : My Bad here !
Package description and update scripts indicate 0.2.97.42, but the retroarch menu tells 0.2.97.43 after update. It's just a description issue IMHO.Second edit : I won't open a topic for that, but it seems the /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/libretrocores/lr-81.sh was partially edited on windows and has bad new line characters : here is what I get when launching retropie_setup.sh :
/home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/libretrocores/lr-81.sh: line 2: $'\r': command not found /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/libretrocores/lr-81.sh: line 11: $'\r': command not found /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/libretrocores/lr-81.sh: line 17: $'\r': command not found /home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/libretrocores/lr-81.sh: line 18: syntax error near unexpected token `$'{\r'' 'home/pi/RetroPie-Setup/scriptmodules/libretrocores/lr-81.sh: line 18: `function sources_lr-81() {

@sano Have corrected the line endings - will sort the version info for fbalpha. thanks.

Despite having the 0.2.97.43 rom set, I can't manage to get Chuka Taisen (and some other games, have to double check) to run at all. It runs without issue on 0.2.97.42 (which I still have installed on a second pi 3).
This was tested on a fresh RetroPie 4.4 install with all updates applied.
-
@maplestory The new version has a few changes regarding the ROMsets, make sure you're using a compatible ROM.
-
@mitu I've attempted to launch Chuka Taisen and all of its' clones to no avail. All files are in the same folder. There are many other games in the same folder that run without issue (Taito subfolder under fba). Again, the roms came from the 0.2.97.43 set, running on Retroarch 1.7.3 and FB Alpha v0.2.97.43 a949908 according to the Retroarch menu.
EDIT: The roms also fail and crash Final Burn Alpha on Windows 10 with the following error:
Exception 0xC0000005 (EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION) thrown.

@maplestory Thanks for the report, the issue was affecting nearly all games from the same driver, i just fixed it in https://github.com/libretro/fbalpha/commit/5e771b0fcdb560a543b016d28e65b7bd37d33348.
Next time come directly on github if you have an issue with a game while having the right romset. -
@evert
Official:
I can't launch Killer Instinct, Rampage, Mortal Kombat 3 and other MIDWAY games, why ?
Support for those games was removed from the libretro port. They are buggy in FB Alpha and have serious compatibility issues with this port. Let's hope someone will fix them in a future release of FB Alpha -
@barbudreadmon Awesome, thanks for resolving it! I'll do a test run on a bunch of roms this week and post over on github if I run into any problems.
-
@2play Thanks mate

Hi all,
I am new here and think I get how ROMSETS work, but for the life of me I cannot figure our how on earth to get the ROMSET, I understand this cannot be posted in a public forum, but if anyone, ANYONE, please can help me, please PM me, if possible.

Anyone know if there is a repository of FBAlpha compiled cores? I need version 0.2.97.43 for raspberry pi 3. Thanks
-
@shift Don't know about any pre-compiled versions besides the libretro buildbot.libretro.com site, but you can pull that version from the github.com repository and build the version you need.

It would be rather complex, i doubt he will be interested since he is probably asking this to avoid having to update his romsets.

That's right, also because now the fbalpha team (fbneo now) is implementing the same policy as the mame and it becomes a problem to match romset and "executable".

it becomes a problem to match romset
- finding a website providing latest known arcade dumps => less than 5 minutes
- downloading them => depends on your bandwidth, doesn't really take any time actively doing something
- running clrmamepro to make sure everything is alright => 10 minutes, 15 if you never used it and have to find&follow a tutorial
I don't think spending less than 1 hour every 2 years (.43 is from 2018) to update your romsets is such a big problem, tbh it's kinda insulting considering several thousands hours of work were spent by the devs to improve the emulator in the meantime.
Anyway, yeah, now i apply strict CRC compliance policy, and that's a good thing because i don't spend hours anymore when people report weird issues while they are just using wrong romsets. -

You misunderstood what I wrote. It's not a problem of updating the romsets, that's the easiest thing to do. The problem is having a compiled version that doesn't change every week. I know very well the effort of you developers, but in fact mine was just a simple request to be able to have the possibility (as happens for MAME) to also use pre-compiled files for previous versions, first of all 0.2.97.43, that's all .
